I never knew I could stick out my neck this long on hive not to talk of, coming this far on the newbies initiative. I must confess, as a newling who just joined the space, the first two weeks was so overwhelming for me because, there was quite a lot of terminologies and procedures that I found confusing, ambiguous and uneasy to understood but thanks to my boss, @moremoney28 whose Dm is always open for me to ask questions regarding any hard to die problems I encountered here, thanks for the encouragement and not giving up on me,I know at times i can be a little too much but thanks again for always being understanding.
Enough of that.
The task for this week which can be summarised into The functions of hive keys,recovering and safeguarding of hive account had me on toes,since I have little or no knowledge about it reason because, I joined hive through a friend @moremoney28, who literally did all the onboarding process for me because of the bad mobile network at my end and afterwards said, "Dorcas, safeguard this keys, don't share it to a single soul"
and that was all, I didn't get to know their functions because something came up and we couldn't reschedule the class.
My hive sister @storygoddess gave me cue that really helped and a fellow newbie @queenkong551 post on the subject matter did more justice to it. Her post gave more insight on what to do regarding the task.
Without no any further ado, let's dive right into the task for this week.
Highlight the steps in changing a trustee accounts ( Recovery Account) to your hive account
• First of, go to your profile settings, where you have your description and numbers of followers and following. You'll get to see a three doted short horizontal lines,click on it.
- After doing that, you will see other options among which is keys and permissions, click on it.
Giveaway: You will get to see the function of each keys if you scroll downwards.
Are you still with me?The third step is to click on Recovery Account which brings to.....
This, and choose your preferred mode you'll like your change of recovery account to be done. This leads us to last but not the least step which is....
Insertion of owners private key and new recovery account,and that's it.
Explanation on Hive keys.
Each keys has its functional ability to unlock certain or specific operations on hive. More details is below.
1• Active Key : This key is used for transactional purposes or monetary related matters such as transferring and exchanging of tokens.
2• Owners key : This keys requires additional permission to recover an account or change other keys. It is used to reset and reclaim an account.
3• Master key : This is the most versatile key among all other keys. it is used to generate other keys that might have been forgotten or exposed.
4• Memo Key : Memo key is used to encode and decode private messages that are not sent through the blockchain.
5• Posting Key : Which is also known as Engagement Key , is used to log in, publish post and do everything relating to a post such as reblogging,commenting and liking.
The measures to safeguard my asset if peradventure my active key get exposed to the general public.
First thing first, is mobilization of all of my earnings to a trusted account or total withdrawal of all my earnings to the least penny.
After which, I would block the perpretors activities on my account by generate a new set of keys with my Master key. My mind would be at ease a little after doing this.
Going further, I would hence recover my account by contacting my trustee using my owner key.
