Not Everything Works with Moderation

Immediately I saw this topic, I remembered something someone once said. She said if Nigerian men considered investing the money they spend from January to December on alcoholic drinks and invested the money gradually in buying cement and molding blocks, maybe they would have had enough blocks to begin a house. This was actually when the cost of cement was affordable.

So many people have grown to be addicted to alcoholic drinks and hard drugs, not minding the negative effects they have on their bodies. One thing I have grown to know about Nigerians is that we love to see something happening instantly before we agree on how true it is. The consumption of alcoholic drinks has really stopped so many from achieving anything valuables in life.

These two substances have great aftermath effects that are so deadly. Heart and liver diseases are what many suffer as a result of their everyday intake of alcohol. I know how many lives consumption of alcohol has taken. I have an uncle who made drinking a hobby, and he doesn't stop drinking unless he is high.

He disregarded the warning and even went ahead to drink on an empty stomach. Not knowing he was only doing more harm than good to himself. Even when he fell sick, a sickness that almost claimed his life, he still refused to heed the doctor's warning about excessive alcohol consumption. It wasn't until a year after the first sickness that he fell ill again, and this time worse than last time.

This time around his stomach was bigger than that of a pregnant woman. He found it difficult to walk and stand, and his strength gradually began to deteriorate. His kid, due to a lack of money, couldn't take him to the hospital, and that was what led to his death. We can't see some of the internal damages that consuming too much alcohol has on our body until it strikes with deadly sickness.

Intake of drugs also comes with its own negative effects. Taking hard drugs can lead to permanent brain disorders and even death. I have seen people who, due to drug overdoses, lost their lives. Apart from the health-related problems these substances cause, they also have negative contributions to society.

It's very difficult to see a person leaving and exhibiting some unhealthy lifestyle in society to get employed by a firm that values the company's image. Also, people of this kind are disregarded and not taken serious because they don't contribute positively to the country's growth. Personally, I can't say there is any one of the two that is less evil. They both have similar effects and are deadly.

Answering the question of whether alcohol should be banned. I will consider banning it in my country because these alcoholic drinks have led some men to do drastic things all in the name of being under the influence of alcohol.

Some who drive heavy-duty cars consume so much and inhale lots of things with the mindset that it will help keep them awake, which at the end can lead to nothing but an accident or overspending. While weighing the effects of banning alcoholic drinks and hard drugs, I saw that these substances has more negative effects than it's positive.
