When I first saw this edition’s topic, I thought so hard for something and I couldn’t get anything so I decided to use that time to do some other things while I thought of what to write to respond to this topic. For some weird reason, I wasn’t still able to come up with something until I reread the question again and something finally came to mind. The truth is, we all have had our own experiences of how power and influence tends to be the main deal, in fact everyone at one point or another have wished they had more power or influence in some situations they must have found themselves.
For me, I can’t remember so much of those experiences but then one of them is just so hard for me to forget so I’d just write about that one. So after two years of joining the hive blockchain, I finally got a downvote and I was sad and I wondered why? I later got to realize that the downvote I got was a result of a fight between two whales and it was just unfortunate that myself and some others have to suffer for it too. At first when I heard of the reason for a downvote on the hive blockchain, I was quite impressed of the hive blockchain because it made so much sense. Basically, I’ve always thought that people get downvotes when they plagiarize, spam, recycle a post or beg for upvotes.
I was wrong because I got a downvote and I was so sure I never did any of those things because I was very conscious of not getting downvoted. I realized I was downvoted because I got an upvote from a particular account and I figured that that account has an unfinished business with them. It was a total display of power and influence and it was just so sad that there was nothing I could do about my post getting a downvote as a result of that, I just have to accept it that way because I don’t have any power or influence to change anything.
I can’t say whether or not they are right or wrong for doing what they do but one thing just kept running through my mind, I need to build my hive power and my influence on the blockchain and everywhere as much as I can. The truth is, no matter how anyone on hive has power and influence, it is almost impossible for them to take away downvotes that are made based on personal disputes or opinions because Hive is a decentralized platform so everyone is free to do whatever as long as it is not tied to a community, as a community is more centralized.
The display of power and influence is an interesting one when you are not at the receiving end but trust me it’s never fun for those who receive it but then, I believe it is something that can be avoided to a great extent and that is what I try to do even as I try to build my influence, I’m not so sure about my power. By building my influence, I hope to keep giving my best in terms of my contents and also engaging with other users on the blockchain and most especially giving back to the blockchain little from the so much I’ve gotten.
The experience taught me the importance of learning and asking questions. Also I learnt that sometimes it’s just best to lie low even when you can do something just to let peace reign. And most especially, it is good to always know why something is happening before you try to jump to conclusions. It’s not easy to get power and influence so it is just best to respect those that have it and if you want, then build yours but until then, respect those who are higher than you and let them serve as a motivation to achieving your goals.
