CUSTOMER PRIVILEGE

Customers are always right is something that I don't really buy sometimes because I've been a victim of being in the position to render a service and I met a customer that made me almost hate my day but then my boss was understanding after all. Most customers have this notion that since they are customers they have the right to make mistakes and not apologize but still claim to be in the right.

About one year ago I was privileged to work as a laundry personnel and you know in such a business you get to see different types of people, some those who are kind and always satisfied, some that are not always satisfied and many more. When I started working there, I tried to learn from my boss because I wasn't so good at ironing clothes, I only did more of washing, but with time I was able to learn how to also press clothes. I was happy I was now getting good at what I do but then my boss started leaving most of the work to me even when he was super good at it than me.

Although he did that because we were just starting at that location and there was not so many people patronizing us, but in less than three months almost everyone in that vicinity knew we existed and we started getting more customers and it kept increasing. My boss had another job he does which was a contract job so sometimes he might only be around for three days so what I do is I wash the clothes and leave the ones that are not urgent for him to press. It was not still easy but it worked for sometime, we were able to satisfy most of our customers although not all because we didn't keep to our words of delivering the time we promised.

Due to the fact that we are having more customers we started having so many people getting angry for no reason. We always give every customer a time to come back to get their clothes but then there was this particular customer who will never tell us when he is coming to get his clothes, he just says we should get them ready as soon as possible. But as you know, since we had others who gave us an actual date, we focused more on those ones.

So one day this customer came to get his clothes on a Saturday morning because he had planned using it for a ceremony that day. When he came, we had about two of his clothes that were ready but somehow he said he wanted the one that was yet to be washed. He started complaining about our services but then my boss made him understood that he never told us which of his clothes to get ready and that was why we just did those two but then he became angry and he just collected one and left after saying some annoying words and feeling he was correct and not ready to listen to us.

Well, in this situation I agree we were at fault because it was actually our job to get the clothes ready but then we weren't given any deadline for us to get his clothes ready and he was furious about it and you know the good part, he still came back and tried to apologize because he loved how we rendered our services. So for this type of customers, I might agree that customers are always right but then it is not as easy as it sounds.
