Earlier today, about three of my neighbors traveled to their hometowns, they were going to vote because that is where their polling unit is located. I watched a video of some friends that came into the country from the Diaspora, they were also coming in to cast their votes. Are you still jonzing?

Another video I watched showed military personnel being deployed to all parts of the country in preparation for the Saturday elections. And you think all this is not serious? It’s going down, whether you choose to accept it or not. A lot of measures are being taken to ensure the votes of the masses are valid. And I am standing on that.

Candidates are going to great lengths to convince you to support them, they are pulling various stunts just so they will get your votes. If they didn’t matter, will they go through all that unnecessary stress? The eye of the entire world is on Nigeria as we speak, everyone is watching us with bated breath. I can assure you that there will be no space for any funny games.

I know that given our past records and what our past leaders have done to us, it is difficult to trust whatever they say. But then, it is our duty to reclaim our country. We can’t keep praying and hoping these men will change for the better, that power is in our hands and we can only make use of it by going out on Saturday to cast our votes.

Someone said some time ago that we should vote for a candidate that can be held accountable. That is if he messed up, we could take him down from the seat of power. We shouldn’t vote in someone who will use the power given to him by us the people to oppress and intimidate us. We’ve done that before, and see where it got us.

We used our power as voters to boot out Jonathan’s administration because we believed it was the worst. Little did we know. And now, here we are again. This is familiar territory but many of us are feeling reluctant to take action. We can use our votes to boot out bad governance once again. Yes, I know that this present administration is on its way out considering this is its eighth year in power. But then, we cannot allow their substitutes to take the reins of power. Sending us into another eight years of darkness and chaos.

Honestly, if the point the country is in is not enough to convince you, I have no idea what could possibly let you know that you need to go out on Saturday and vote. This is no longer your right, it is your duty. After all, when your house is a mess it is your duty to clean it up. Our country is in a mess right now, and we see obvious signs of it every single day.

So, my dear friends, what am I trying to say here?

This is our only chance to take back our country. And if we fail to do it now, the only way we can go is down. Before we used to believe the only way to go was up, but with all this back-to-back shege they’ve been dishing out to us on a steady, you can’t even conceive the possibility of going up.

Saturday is a public holiday, most businesses will not be open. If you are a student, classes would not be held. So, you have no reason at all not to get out there and vote. As long as you have your voter’s card you have to vote. You must vote!

Let this day be a moment that we will remember in the years to come. The day Nigerians took their country back from corrupt leaders and the day the good kind of change swept through it entirely.

I rest my case.
