Birds are extraordinary animals, with an incredible capacity for learning. I was particularly delighted when we acquired our first cockatiel. Here in Brazil, cockatiels are considered ornamental birds and can be raised as pets at home. **Below, I share a little of our experience with this incredible bird.** ![](https://images.ecency.com/DQmdVmQyD5WQzaHt6FiGHCy38WkEV2Ux7Wb7y5DiiQJAGXu/img_20200416_153008764.jpg) *2 months old* My son asked me to buy a cockatiel, as he had seen it at a colleague's house and fell in love with the bird. He arrived saying that the bird let him pick her up and even sang the national anthem. Anyway, we decided to buy one at the pet stores here in the city. When he arrived here at home, he was 2 months old, and we soon started teaching him. I delved deeper into her care and tried to teach her how to whistle some songs. She was learning, and our son was happy just because of that. Some time later, I acquired a new pair so that we could have more birds of the same species together and so they could play with each other. Where I bought it, the guy said that if you put a nest in it, they will reproduce. I placed the nest for her, and soon I saw the cockatiel looking and trying to enter the nest with great curiosity. After some time, the puppies began to be born. I checked and there were some chicks in the nest, well fed. I saw that the parents took good care of them, and with the food I was giving the parents, the puppies grew up healthy. After some time passed, I stopped breeding and removed the nest, leaving the parents and chicks together, including our first cockatiel. I could see everyone's joy, as the place where they were was very large and provided a good game for everyone. The chicks were entering adulthood, and we realized that our first male cockatiel was meeting a new friend who became his partner. They were just together, and my son, seeing this, asked to separate them. As I have a cat, I was afraid he would try to disturb the nest. They stayed together and started laying eggs, and soon more babies began to be born. I managed to donate 3 of the puppies and kept 2. With that, I already had 8 callopsites at home. Chegou falando que a ave deixou ele pegar nela e até cantava o hino nacional. Enfim, decidimos comprar uma nas casas de pet aqui da cidade. Quando ele chegou aqui em casa, tinha 2 meses de vida, e logo começamos a ensiná-lo. Me aprofundei mais nos cuidados e tentei ensiná-la a assobiar algumas músicas. Ela foi aprendendo, e nosso filho ficou numa felicidade só por conta disso. Com algum tempo depois, adquiri um novo casal para que pudéssemos ter mais aves da mesma espécie juntas e assim eles poderem brincar entre si. Lá onde comprei, o rapaz falou que, se colocar um ninho, elas reproduzem. Coloquei o ninho para ela, e logo vi a calopsita olhando e tentando entrar no ninho com muita curiosidade. Passando algum tempo, começaram a nascer os filhotes. Verifiquei e tinha alguns filhotes no ninho, bem alimentados. Vi que os pais cuidavam bem, e com a alimentação que eu estava dando para os pais, os filhotes cresceram saudáveis. As calopsitas são aves incríveis, e a experiência de ver os filhotes crescerem é realmente gratificante! ![](https://images.ecency.com/DQmSSzFUrZwwf6Q435DxKYhgNqa9M39WSd8MnNXuubQGHip/img_20201205_132406.jpg) *Aves fora do ninho* Nessa idade, com mais ou menos 15 dias, eu já começava a ajudar na alimentação para que elas ficassem mansas e pudessem estar junto conosco em casa, com meu filho. Com algum tempo passado, eu não coloquei mais para reprodução e retirei o ninho, deixando os pais e os filhotes juntos, incluindo também nossa primeira calopsita. Pude ver a alegria de todos, pois o local onde eles ficavam era bem grande e proporcionava uma boa brincadeira para todos. Os filhotes foram entrando na fase adulta, e percebemos que nosso primeiro macho calopsita estava conhecendo uma nova amiga que passou a ser sua parceira. Eles só ficavam juntos, e meu filho, vendo isso, pediu para separá-los. Como tenho gato, fiquei com receio de ele tentar mexer no ninho. Elas ficaram juntas e iniciaram uma postura, e logo começaram a nascer mais filhotes. Consegui doar 3 dos filhotes e fiquei com 2. Com isso, já estava com 8 calopsitas em casa. Seja um pássaro, um gato ou um cachorro, o amor que sentimos por eles é genuíno e profundo. Cuidar desses seres emplumados ou peludos é uma responsabilidade que nos enriquece e nos ensina a ser mais compassivos.
