EVENING FIRE CLOUDS

EVENING FIRE CLOUDS

RETREATING FINGER CLOUDS

After a heavy rainstorm, as twilight was dusting down, the sky was washed in a hue of oranges against the still looming rain clouds. I’ve always liked the contrast of a tonal silhouette against a wash of colour. The tree line created the contrast and added a sharp textural component to the softness of the clouds.

These photos are of a subject matter I almost never photograph, sunsets. It’s because I know other photographers do this subject far more justice that I will. That said, I decided I would create a post to share these three photos. I was inspired to do so by @eolianpariah’s post Sunrise Silhouette

LACY TREE SILHOUETTES

I had no intention of ever posting these photos because they were taken as personal ones, to bring back specific memories. These were taken at the house my parents used to live in, while I stood on their back deck. They lived far away, so I was only able to spend time with them once a year. I made a point to capture photos whenever I went, so I would have them as visual reminders.

When I look at these photos, I remember the smell of the air there and the coolness that always comes with the evening setting in. I feel the deck under my feet, my hand on the wet wood railing. I hear the sound of my mother’s voice faintly in the kitchen. My father’s off in his favourite chair in the living room. Even though I can’t see or hear him, I can feel him there. It was a pause in the day, a quiet moment of in between times.

Between the Rain and the Sun
Between the Light and the Dark
Therein
Lies
The Middle Ground
The Still Point
To Rest In.
