This Sunday, I returned to Central to pick up something and shop for personal items at the Filipino shop, Worldwide. As there might be a new art exhibition, I considered going back to Tai Kwun while the time was still young. However, there was none.
I wondered around it to visit some spots I haven't visited yet, and I spotted the E Hall which is similar to the former prison I visited before where Art Behind Bars exhibited. Only to discover that it was one of the jail cells that I was unable to locate during my last visit.
Upon entering the place, I surprisingly found out that it was the Behind Bars I was looking for back then.
Behind Bars is undoubtedly a favorite among partygoers looking for a unique bar. As soon as you enter the place, you wouldn't think it is a bar because of how casual and cozy it looks. Prison cells in the right row were locked, so I peered inside and spotted several sodas, juices, wines, and liquors in cans and bottles.
Based on the Behind Bars banner, the bar opens at 5 in the afternoon every Friday to Sunday. Meanwhile, from Tuesday to Friday noon to 2:30 is for lunch.
Given that it was formerly a prison hall, the area is narrow, yet an ideal spot to socialize. In the main room, there were only two glass tables. One had 12 seats, while the other had 6 seats. A disco light that was hung above the area would switch on when the party started at night.
I was astounded by what I saw when I entered the left rows of the prison cells. The prison cells were interlinked with glass walls, giving the area an infinite feel.
I didn't know what I was doing here. I told a lady inside to take me a photo but that's what she took, lol.
I took this instead..
Each cell has small black metal tables with two red metal chairs. Its narrow space is definitely good for two people only. Should I say it is perfect for catching up with friends while listening to groovy a and cool music.
The small space is definitely not an ideal one for disco dancing unless you want to be too close to others, lol.
To give you an idea of how this place looks like at night, here are the photos I collected from restaurantguru.com
I can smell the sweat in here 😂.
I must say that those neon lights are cool. But I don't think dancing here is cool. This is undoubtedly an amazing place for those who simply want to experience a different ambiance while chatting and enjoying a glass of wine to the beat of a pleasant soundtrack. However, knowing the location of the place, be prepared for the not-so-affordable rates of alcoholic beverages here. Even a can of an ordinary soda might cost more than half a hundred dollars, lol.
It's a cool place though. I hope the next time I visited the place, I could see those cool neon lights on.
