Hi dear Hivers in the PhotoFeed community, today I had the opportunity to visit a village of ethnic minorities in Mang Den. The weather in Mang Den has been rainy lately. So I mainly spent my time indoors chatting with the locals. Today I was at the house of Y Khen and Y Doan, two elderly women. While the younger people in the family go out to do heavier work, the older people stay at home to do domestic work such as weaving brocade. Although brocade fabric is increasingly uncommon, it is still an indispensable part of local people's lives.
With the development of modern garment industries, popular clothes have been introduced to the villages at much cheaper prices than handwoven brocade fabrics. However, the elderly in the village still maintain weaving as a beautiful feature of their culture and life. For them, it is not just a job but a beautiful memory.
According to Y Khen and Y Doan, it can take them up to 1-2 months to complete a set of brocade clothes. According to them, because it was a time-consuming and laborious process, the villagers did not have many clothes to wear before. That's why they value the clothes they have so much. Brocade fabric is not only a sign of gratitude but also shows the love of mothers for other family members.
