The Cassava Farmland Of Central Nigeria. #photofeed Contest Round 71 - LANDSCAPE PHOTO

Nigeria is blessed with vast plain lands which has been a good propeller of agricultural practices in the country. The people of Nigeria are actively and productively engaging in agriculture to provide food for their respective families. If not for the presence of agricultural products which has been helpful to many of us, the story would not have been palatable coupled with the harsh economic situation in the land.

The image in my picture is that of the landscape of the property allocated to Ilorin International Airport. The airport authority has not made use of all the vast landed property allocated to it. So, a large portion of it has been left as bush. Farmers seize the opportunity to cultivate the land for crop production. There are no issues with the airport authority and the farmers since this exercise provides a mutually beneficial relationship between the two parties.

It is a mutual relationship in the sense that while the airport authority needs to spend money in keeping the airport area free of bushes, the farmers need land for farming. So, in coming together this way, the farmers help the airport authority to clear the bush and keep the area free of bushes. And the airport authority helps the farmers in providing farmlands for cultivation.

The crops grown here are mainly cassava, yam, potatoes, beans and groundnuts. There are restrictions in planting cereals which could likely attract birds to the area. Birds are not needed around the airport area to avoid disasters with aircraft.
