Let's Go Blackberry Picking!

After a couple of cooler days, the warm weather returned today, so I decided to go foraging for bilberries and blackberries.

When I was a child, one of my favourite summertime activities was going blackberry picking. You would always come back with stained fingers and scratches on your arms and legs from the brambles. I think it was a rite of passage. It was worth it, though.

Unfortunately, there weren't any bilberries ready yet in this particular area, but I knew where I could get some blackberries. As long as I went back home with something, I didn't mind what I'd get.

After a bit of searching, I finally found a patch that was filled with berries just waiting to be picked.

Somebody else was also out blackberrying in the same area as me. I wasn't worried that there wouldn't be enough blackberries to go around as there were plenty for all of us.

I came home with a couple of bowls. They were quite ripe so the birds would enjoy the remainder of the fruit once it dropped.

I found a little caterpillar on one of the blackberries. My phone was telling me it was a sawfly caterpillar. Whatever it was, I put it back on a blackberry and released it back outside to live another day.
