Sublime Sunday - THREE CHAPTERS OF A LONG SUMMER DAY

CHAPTER ONE - MORNING

IMG_8030 malo.jpg

The day has just begun ... the air is still fresh and humid ...

... and some have already taken the fishing positions on the main dock ...

... here in the small port of Liznjan ... about five kilometers from my home.

It looks like the anglers arrived here before dawn ... I don't know why :D - but it looks ... like they are here since who knows when ... I don't know, they just seem so awake and comfortable ... not sleepy like me.

While they are into fishing, I'm collecting the flowers ...

... buoys ...

... bubbles ...

(Enlargeable)

... and other things ... many other things ... well, practically everything ...

... including the anglers ... to put on photograph.

I'm here to capture, process and digitize all that water, plastic and complex biological stuff ...

(Enlargeable)

... and make it fit into another rambling post about nothing in particular :D

That's why I woke up so early ...

... I'm on a vague and silly mission, and I'm taking it very seriously.

The seagulls are strategically deployed all around the port ...

... waiting for the sun ... or the larger fishing boats with edibles from the deep ... or something else ... and then ....

... the moment later ...

... the water turns into liquid gold ...

(Enlargeable)

... a sea of gold ...

... this is the right time ...

... to catch the mythical golden fish ... or some other underwater treasure.

Everything looks monumental in this light ...

... even a garbage basket ... and the rustling nylon bag that somehow escaped from there ... so is no wonder ...

... that this seagull looks like an integral part ...

(Enlargeable)

... of the stony World War 2 memorial on which he's standing on.

(Enlargeable)

The shifting impressionist visions reflected in the water ...

... can be seen in a different version up in the sky, painted in a more stiff manner ...

... sometimes framed by floral decorations ... like this one, made of winding branches of the wild rose. Meanwhile ...

... on the opposite horizon the colors are more subdued.

And so ... I'm standing here ... among the fishermen's tool sheds ...

... and small boats ... some of them are floating in the shallows ...

... this one was recently pulled out of the sea ...

... many were stranded long ago ...

... and are now filled with garbage and a thin layer of stagnant rainwater that fell from the sky a month ago.

The light is changing ... growing in intensity ...

... but losing the strength of its early artistic impact ...

... while the sun is rising ... greeted by this left slipper who has lost its right companion ...

(Enlargeable)

... a wandering sea bottle ...

(Enlargeable)

... and glittering minerals scattered among ordinary coastal limestone.

(Enlargeable)

The sunlight is passing through the empty beach bar ...

... which is closed for now ... but it looks almost open, very clean and ready for costumers ... who will arrive around noon, I guess.

(Enlargeable)

The seagulls are patrolling the lawn ...

(Enlargeable)

... in search for something edible.

They look very elegant ...

... and walk around in a pretty dignified manner.

This juvenile one ... is sniffing around some garbage ...

(Enlargeable)

... in the shallow water ...

... near some stranded boat.

(Enlargeable)

Another boat is on its way to the deeper side of the bay ...

... a feather is stuck in the grass ... and I'm ready to go home ... to eat something after this idle morning walk ... that didn't require much effort & energy ... but still got me hungry.

CHAPTER TWO - AROUND NOON

I'm back ... in the port again ... under the bright blue sky ... and some lovely fast - shifting clouds that look like they are about to form some letters.

(Enlargeable)

Down on the ground ... or more precisely ...

... in the shallow water underneath the sky ... the little egret is dancing.

I mean, it looks like a dance and non - verbal theatrical performance ...

... but this bird is actually hunting ... ant here, the egret has caught some very small fish.

It's pretty hot at this time of the day ...

... but there is also humidity in the heavy - to - breathe air ...

... so a small fragment of rainbow appeared above the pines.

Meanwhile, the egret is walking through the shallows ...

(Enlargeable)

... in search of another meal.

(Enlargeable)

She's using her leg and feet to stir the mud and uncover various invertebrates and simultaneously attract small fish that come to find edible particles in that underwater cloud ... I mean, I think that the part about attracting fish is true because I see fish coming around my hand when I do so in the mud when snorkeling ... so I connected the two things and you have to know that I could be wrong ... I didn't find this as some proven fact in zoological literature ... it could be :) or not to be so.

(Enlargeable)

The only irrefutable fact is that the egret is mixing the mud, using her leg as some long spoon.

The partial rainbow was still in the sky ...

... above this well designed boat ...

(Enlargeable)

... when the egret got seriously focused on something under the surface ... changing visibly her posture and plumage ... ant then ... a moment later ...

... she caught another fish.

(Enlargeable)

While the bird was swallowing her prey ... I decided to go further along the coast, to my favorite snorkeling area and spend the rest of the hot sunny afternoon in the sea.

CHAPTER THREE - EVENING

(Enlargeable)

I'll be home soon ... but right now ...

... I'm back in the bay ...

... in the port of Liznjan ...

... sitting on the dock ...

(Enlargeable)

... watching a man paddle - boarding to the shore ...

(Enlargeable)

... with a sailboat on its tail ...

... while the night is slowly chasing us all. It's a silent, snail - paced action scene ... like something out of the surreal, artsy version of a James Bond movie.

The sea is very calm ...

... small motorboats are driving in and out of the bay ...

... living temporary scars on that shiny surface.

To add another slightly surreal touch to the situation ...

... someone is walking the dog ...

... in a pretty peculiar way :D

I didn't expect to catch this cool little scene ...

... when I zoomed on this distant yellow pedalo ...

... from the top of the Baywatch tower.

The night is almost here ...

... it's time to go home.

EPILOGUE

Once home, I transferred these images into the PC ... and forgot about them ... because when I was collecting them with my camera, I had no idea about where and when will I use them ... it was a casual, unplanned shooting, just to do something while wandering aimlessly around ... only yesterday, while working on some other old material for the Saturday Memories post, I stumbled upon these photographs ... and noticed the potential for a three-chapter story about my summer ramblings.

And that's it ... my first three - chapter post is here ... as always in these ramblings on HIVE, the photographs are my work ... THE END
