The Dangerous Revelation

This is my entry in #STB 33:

Option 1: All of your friends say that the fortune teller at the edge of town can see into your heart by looking into your empty coffee cup. Skeptical, you visit her. She accurately recounts your most recent struggles and gives you insight, what does she say?

Craig rolled his eyes back and pouted his lips in disgust.

"Come on, Craig, get serious." Said Johanna, her friend who was accompanying him.

"Who can get serious about this?" replied Craig. "This is pure bullshit, Johanna."

The fortune teller who stood in front of them was very quiet as the two friends argued. She felt disgust at Craig's attitude but kept quiet until it was time for her to speak.

"I don't know why I let you talk me into coming here, I don't even believe in this stuff." Craig asserted, in a strong tone of voice.

"Come on, it's just for fun," Johanna insisted. "She's not a charlatan, I assure you. Besides, you lose nothing by doing it, after this you'll go home and forget all about it."

Craig frowned and heeded her friend.

"Okay, but make it quick."

Craig walks over to the fortune teller and places his hand in front of her.

"What are you doing?" She asked.

"Aren't you going to read my palm?"

The fortune teller exhaled a slight laugh.

"I don't do that, what I do is coffee reading."

"How's that?" Craig asked.

"Here, drink some of this coffee, but not completely, leave some at the base of the cup and then give it to me."

The boy did as the fortune teller asked, giving the cup back to her, and she began to concentrate. Her hands batted the little coffee that remained until things started to reveal themselves.

"I see that you are a determined young man, eager for a promising future. You don't mind doing anything to achieve your goals. You're stubborn, although you like the easy way, you also obsess over things that cost you work."

Craig began to feel intrigued. Johanna looked at her friend's face and realized he was becoming convinced.

"It says here too," the fortune teller continued. "That you have a big plan, something you've been working on for a long time and it has to do with your friend Johanna."

Craig's heart began to race, his skepticism quickly diminishing.

"Plan? What plan?" asked Johanna insistent with curiosity.

"Your friend is going to..." The fortune teller fell silent. Her eyes widened to the limit and she looked in terror at Johanna.

"Girl, run!" the fortune-teller shouted.

"Don't even think about it, Johanna," Craig said, landing a piece of glass on her friend's throat.

"Craig! What are you doing?" asked Johanna frightened with her body shaking.

"He's planning to kidnap you and then ask your father for money!" the fortune teller revealed.

" What? Craig, how could you? I thought we were friends!"

"My dear, Johanna, you're a fool!" Craig said in a mocking tone. "Did you really think anyone would want to be friends with you? You're very boring and insipid, plus you're physically unattractive. The only interesting thing about you is that your father has a lot of money and will pay a good amount for your ransom."

Craig let out a long laugh and then pointed his eyes at the fortune teller.

"And you, you witch or whatever you are! Now that you know everything, I'll have to take care of you too."

All seemed lost, until, in one swift move, Johanna punched Craig in the crotch and pulled free of him. The fortune teller took advantage and picked up a small marble sculpture and whipped it at Craig's head, knocking him unconscious.

They both ran out of the cabin in panic and down a road to safety in a nearby farmhouse. They called the police and they arrived quickly. They found Craig dazed and immediately handcuffed him. Johanna thanked the fortune teller for helping her, and they walked to a cab that took the girl to town. Since that traumatic day, Johanna now only relies on coffee readings for friends.
