The Misadventures of sha...

It is the year 1023 and the greatest witch of her time, Brew Goddess is about to join her predecessors beyond. She has no choice but to pass on her most treasured possession, her magic pot to one of her daughters. Shana, brewer of coffee, or Shanaya, brewer of tea.

As she lay weak and pale on stacks of clouds, her daughters hovered over her like a vulture, studying its prey.

“I pass on my pot to Sha...”The witch drew her last breath.

“To who?” they both yelled at her lifeless body.

“Let it go. It is mine.”

“No, you let it go. Mother was going to call my name before she took that last breath. She said, Sha... She was going to say, Shana.”

“No. She was going to say, Shanaya.”

The two sisters continued to wrestle over the pot, falling and bouncing off the clouds as their mother's lifeless body floated.

“You've always been a terrible witch. It is the reason mother wanted me to have the pot.” Shana snatched the pot from her sister almost tripping on a heap of clouds.

“No Shana. That's my birthright. With that pot, I can influence their world with my darkness.” Shanaya smirked. As she approached her sister steadily, they began to struggle over the pot again, and just like that, it fell off their hands through the clouds and straight into earth.

“Huh.” They both gasped. Instantly they fell unconscious and collapsed on stacks of clouds.

“Tim, look what I found in the basement.” Erica beamed as she approached her husband on the kitchen counter.

“A pot?” he replied passively scrolling through the messages on his phone while sipping a hot cup of coffee.

“Well, it isn't just a pot. It's the most beautiful I've ever seen. Look at the bronze pattern on it. It looks like an antique. Museum material if you ask me. It must be valuable.

“I'm going to use it tonight when our guests arrive. It's going to be fun.” Erica continued speaking without expecting a reply from Tim.

Erica and Tim had just acquired a new house after ten years. They had put in the work and thought they both deserved some accolades. They were organizing a housewarming party on new year's Eve to celebrate. What better way to end the year?

“Let's get ready Tim. It is almost time for our guests to start arriving.” Erica began dragging Tim upstairs leaving the pot open on the kitchen counter. Suddenly the bronze on the pot began to glow. Just then the kitchen cabinet flew open. A coffee jar and a pack of tea came flying open. They landed on the counter beside the pot.

“Being stuck with you strong dark lots is a torture no one should have to go through.” One of the tea bags got up and dusted her muslin. “ you make our lives colorless.

“Oh enough! Fake miss goody two shoes. Do you think life is refreshing with you around because you smell all calming and soothing? These people love the dark stuff. It makes them alert.” A bean from the jar emerged.

“Wait until midnight when they pick me for a refreshing taste.” That’s when we are going to change the world. The Teabag pouted.

“You are just as evil as your brewer Shanaya. Wanting to dominate everyone.” Bean hissed and taunted.

The two began exchanging words until it turned into a brawl. Bean tore Teabag’s muslin and slid in by accident.

“Huh! Have you no shame also?” Teabag gasped. Shen then collapsed on the counter as soon as she heard Erica rushing down the stairs.

“Oh, Tim what a mess. Erica cleaned up the pot, put teabag in it, and covered it.

“Get out of me.” Teabag hissed from inside the pot.

Deep in the sky with twinkling stars, the witches aroused from the longest sleep time had ever known.

“Oh, it's been forever. Someone finally opened the pot I see. How long has it been?” Shan bent her back and stretched her muscles.

“It's been a thousand years. If only you listened and just gave me the darn thing.” Shanaya rose and began looking around. “Where’s my broom.” She lifted her head to find that Shan had mounted on hers and rode down the sky.

“Well met sister”. Shan's voice echoed.

Soon, the two sisters were hovering in the dark around Erica and Tim’s home. Hitting each other’s brooms occasionally, they waited.

“I’ve got my evil Teabag in there. Once the clock hits midnight, they drink it, the world would be mine and they’d do whatever I want. Evil will rule.” Shanaya spat.

“You think bean would go down without a fight? Think again.”

That evening, Tim and Erica’s guests began arriving in their best one after the other. They both received them with warm and smiling faces. They had organized an awesome party and they were positive their guests would have a thrill.

“Everyone! Coffee or tea?” Erica announced before disappearing into the kitchen. “It is almost midnight. Let the countdown begin.” Her voice trailed off.

Moments later, Erica came out with a tray of mugs. She had used the teabag in her latest possession to make delicious hot cups of tea for her guests.

“Ten, nine,” they began counting down to the new year.

“Yes. Evil Tea was in the pot.” Shanaya rejoiced.

“No! It was bean in the pot.” Shan announced

Peeking from the dark above the house, the sisters started to argue again. They both cast their wands as the clock hit midnight. The collision between good and evil created bright lights in the sky.

“Are those fireworks in the sky?” Erica’s guests pointed from inside.

“Happy 2023.” They cheered in unison as they sipped their drink.

“Is this coffee and tea?” Tim asked.

Erica shrugged and rested her head on his shoulder.

“Bean and Teabag were in the pot” Shanaya yelled at Shan. “You’ve ruined it again”.
