The Coffee of Death

In Silvana's country, there had been a drop in the production of coffee beans, due to the climatic changes of recent times, the soils of her country had become infertile for harvesting coffee and this affected her work for years, since she had been working in a coffee factory for many years and did not know how to do anything else. For a while the factory was stopped, until they could negotiate to export the precious grain, to start up again with the production and supply the national market.

In the meantime, the employees would keep doing maintenance work on all the machinery and the whole place. Soon they were able to establish a commercial deal with China to export coffee from that country. Silvana wondered if the coffee would be as good as theirs, since the Chinese had a reputation for doing everything in a hurry and without many security measures in many of their products... The longed for coffee beans arrived and they had everything ready for their proper handling and due processing.

What Silvana and her coworkers did not know was that this bean had something different, which they did not detect for the moment, the only thing was that its smell had a strange fragrance, but they thought that it was due to the storage and so many months of travel, that some of its smell had been lost, otherwise everything seemed "normal" to them. When they had the first batch ready for consumption, packed, everyone in the factory could not resist not taking a packet and trying that foreign coffee....

So they took the first packets and set out to taste it to give the coffee the thumbs up. They filled several coffee pots to the brim. That day Silvana was a little sick to her stomach and did not want to participate in the preparation of the coveted drink, since its strange smell alone made her nauseous, so she continued with her work, while the coffee drinkers were in line to pour their good cup; at the moment, it seemed to everyone that it had a somewhat strange taste, but the anxiety to drink coffee was so great that many drank their cup until the end and even repeated it quickly .....

When from one moment to another, everyone began to fall like fumigated flies, one after the other, only those who for whatever reason had not tasted that coffee, were standing, among them Silvana, at once the alarm was given to the sanitary authorities and the production of the factory was stopped, all the accesses to the factory were closed, quarantine was declared; Fortunately, the distribution of that coffee to the stores had not yet begun, so they ordered to study that grain and later to destroy all that coffee.

Later it was learned that the bean contained a bacterium that ate the stomach in seconds without leaving any possibility of survival, all you had to do was to ingest a cup of coffee. Silvana could not believe what she had been saved from, breathing a sigh of relief...but then she remembered that one of the ladies in the dining room who prepared the food and drinks had taken a package and taken it home, leaving early that day, without tasting that coffee, saying that she would try it at home with her family...Then the nightmare started all over again. ....
