The Syphon

Feels like a good batch of Crack is being prepared right LOL, I wish but no this is the most exciting, visually pleasing and oldest brewing methods to make intense robust coffee.

What you see here is a Syphon Coffee Maker By Hario and here is it's basic working principle.

Syphon works on the expansion & contraction of gas principle, the bottom globular beaker is heated using a spirit lamp until the water starts to boil creating water vapours. This vapour pushes the water from the globular beaker to the beaker above through a filter.

Once the water reaches the beaker above the spirit lamp is put off and what goes up must eventually come down.

The vapours in the globular beaker starts to cools down and starts to contract this now creates a vacuum resulting in suction of the water from the upper beaker to the globular one below.

Coffee is pre-added to the beaker above before the whole process above takes place.

This was shot at Mandala Cafe in Mangalore, India. Currently this is the only place in the state that provides this method of brewing coffee and if you aren't a coffee fanatic like me it would be quite difficult to taste the change in notes from various methods of brewing coffee.
