Entering the big wide world of wallpaper

I've never been a big fan of wallpaper on the walls as a house decoration as it was always a reminder of how senior citizens used to cover their walls. With all my moving around, every time I would move into a new home was the first thing I had to do was get off the old wallpaper which was ugly and a disaster to get off so you would have to steam it off.

In the Netherlands what you always would see a lot of the walls is stucco. Tight and neat and it is just easy to paint over, and that is what I would also do. Now in this current house the previous owners had a nice wallpaper on their, so nice that I had decided to leave it on and I even started to appreciate it more and more.

Untill the water from the walls came...

Bye bye wallpaper

And then there was a leakge in the house. And one thing that wallpaper doesn't like is water. It starts to become wobbly and bubbly and darker in the spots where it is not supposed to be dark. So it is time for new wallpaper and I have decided to also even head back to putting wallpaper back on there.

But how to start at that! So it was time to a little inspiration trip to a store specialized in paper and that was like entering a whole new world. All kinds of designs in there, the one even more colourful and more busy than the next. But in general, there is just really nice stuff on the market that is also still very affordable.

Now this shop has a lot of examples in bigger plates for you to see, but apart from that they also have a lot of books with samples which you can also order.

That ordering from books I don't find it that easy, because you only see a small sample of it, and from that you have to imagine in what it would look like on a whole wall.

And then even

And with those choices you also have the price aspect but I guess somewhere also the quality aspect comes into play. Because you have rolls from $20 that can cover up to 10 square meters, and rolls to $200 for even 5 square meter. Sure it is more arty farty, but will this affact the quality that much? I am not sure at all

So now I am home with 10.000 samples of what can be an option to put on the wall. Luckily there is some AI to help you with those kinds of things where you can photoshop around for a bit.

But damn..I like having the place nice, but the amounts that you can spend on home deco is just crazy at all.

On the other hand looking at painting the walls is also not as cheap as it used to be. As said...I am more enthusiastic on the wallpaper at the moment

This was my first trip ever taking even a peek into how this all works.

It does feel a bit like unlocking a new level of stuff that is possible and it really needs some thought. But walking around in a big place like this? Yeah...honestly this was like being a kid in a candy shop, just with nothing eadible in there.

And so you still learn....
