Witness Update from @c0ff33a and @derangedvisions - HF24 Full API node back online

On October 24th the Hive Blockchain executed HF24 codename Eclipse and we smoothly moved the blockchain into a new chain id, rebranded internal commands to Hive and introduced the new hived blockchain processing software that uses a fraction of the ram it's predecessor did. The ram saving moved a large amount of blockchain queries into the Hivemind back end database - and this has caused some issues as the api calls changed for apps and dapps. 13 days later on the whole everything is running smoothly, there are some minor niggles but these are being worked on - the important thing to consider is the massive improvements made back end will pay dividends in the future for the Hive blockchain - so all stake holders large and small should be thankful of the hard work our Top Twenty + Witnesses have put in to make this happen.

It has taken longer then I would have liked to get https://api.c0ff33a.uk back full running - Hivemind has fundamentally changed and over the past few weeks I have had to learn from scratch about correctly setting up postgresql and moving the database location around to suit storage needs - it has been a long and slow process often frustrating, tiny mistakes at the start only show up days later when the database is fully restored and then you realise you have to start all over to fix it even more days waiting. Now it is up and running fully I am looking to make good use of the RAM savings our top dev's have made to run back ups of both Account History Hived and Hivemind - effectively meaning when no maintenance is needed I can offer two API nodes.

Five Servers dedicated to Hive Blockchain

@c0ff33a and @derangedvisions now have 5 active servers supporting the Hive Blockchain, spreading the load means we can offer @c0ff33a Witness 24/7, @whiterosecoffee Witness 24/7, a backup running 24/7 to fall over to if either of those two nodes fail, Account History Node with Hivemind Eclipse on the same server feeding from it. FAT Node with Jussi to direct the API node as required.

Community Support

As well as providing the back up services above for the Hive Blockchain, we also supply community support back end services for @thealliance run by @enginewitty, @innerblocks run by @freedompoint and @freedomtowrite and @teamuksupport run by @c0ff33a. All my back end services are run through https://api.c0ff33a.uk so they don't impact on the most popular heavily used API nodes.

The coding team to watch out for

During the HF24 change over many API struggled to catch up with the Hivemind Eclipse requirements - finding a stable node was often a struggle and one Witness stepped up and provided a consistent reliable service throughout - @deathwing running https://api.deathwing.me has been a solid reliable node operator throughout and I have fallen back to his node many times while I have struggled to make Hivemind work. It's a solid reminder not everyone that cares for the Hive Blockchain is in the top 50 Witness list - and I would like to see @deathwing well into the top 30's very soon because there are few already there providing a fraction of the service he is.

It was also no surprise that @deathwing is part of a group of some of my favourite coders on Hive, which includes @cawdawg Witness, @rishi556, @foxon and @snon . They are definitely accounts to watch because I am expecting big things in the future, if you are into @dcity then check out their card sale site https://nftm.art/buy/city for great value cards and easy to read card specifications.

I've got a proposal for you

Proposals allow our community to request funding to develop dapps, apps and build on the Hive Blockchain - they are an important part of our ecosystem and you need to be looking at the proposals and voting the ones you like.

Below are a few links of proposals I support, there are many more and you should judge whether you support any or all with your Hive Stake.

Ways to use https://api.c0ff33a.uk

Currently if anyone would like to use my node to access the Hive Blockchain the options are limited, peakd.com have their own set list of nodes and do not offer the option to manually enter your own choice yet. hive.blog has the option to set your own node in settings > advanced - I have tried this a few times and some how it does not seem to work until you refresh the page which resets back to a default node.

If you have apps or dapps running you can set them or beem to use https://api.c0ff33a.uk

For the average user the simplest method is to use https://hiveblog.c0ff33a.uk/ which is my own build of the hive.blog condenser with custom config so it uses my https://api.c0ff33a.uk node to display posts, and allow you to upvote, comment and reblog. I mainly use it on Brave browser with Hive Keychain and it works perfectly.
