FungiFriday: Winter Mushrooms

Hello to all! Friday is not only the end of the working week, but also a great opportunity to take part in the for FungiFriday challenge. Today I was in the forest and captured some interesting "winter" mushrooms growing on the trees. Apparently, on the way I came across some varieties of a fungus called Trutovik or Tinder fungus. Perhaps many of us have seen similar mushrooms before. However, tinder fungi are not as simple as they might seem at first glance. This is my contribution to #FungiFriday by @ewkaw.

There are a huge number of varieties of tinder fungi. Surprisingly, some of them can be eaten. So it turns out that mushrooms can be harvested at any time of the year, even in winter. Although I wouldn't risk it. I noticed such a pattern that tinder fungi grow only on dying or fallen trees. The forest I visited was full of such trees. Some of them were damaged due to bad weather, and the other part was attacked by a bark beetle. Now these trees have become excellent "soil" for the growth of tinder fungi.

Depending on the tree, you can see various types of tinder fungus on it. The trunks of some trees were overflowing with these mushrooms. Hundreds of small tinder fungi look like a single organism.

It turns out that snowy winter decorates not only trees, but also mushrooms. They seemed to put on snow-white hats that protect them from severe frosts.

I would never have thought before that when I went for a walk in the forest in winter I would stumble upon such a variety of mushrooms. In summer and autumn, my main goal of hiking in the forest is mushrooms. But this time they were not my goal, but they were a great addition to the forest walk. Thank you @ewkaw for the opportunity to share interesting mushrooms in the weekly #FungiFriday contest.
