Chevron Oil Company JAILS Human Rights Lawyer Who Won $9.5 Billion Case Against Them For Polluting & Killing The People Of Ecuador!

The last 48 hours has brought an escalation of the number of cases of extreme perversions of the legal systems of the world. In a 'first', the oil company Chevron seems to have colluded with a judge to imprison a lawyer who won a large case against Chevron in Ecuador that saw them receive a $9.5 Billion fine. Prosecutors refused to prosecute Steven Donziger, the lawyer, so the judge instructed the corporation to handle the prosecution themselves!

For those who do not know, in 2011 a court handed Chevron Oil Company a $9.5 Billion fine for polluting Ecuadaorian land with 16 billion gallons of poisonous, crude oil. Chevron Oil still hasn't paid and has instead done everything possible to avoid responsibility. They essentially left Ecuador and tried to hide behind distance and lawyers. As journalist Greg Pallast has reported, the tribal people of certain areas of Ecuador have been hit hard by the result of massive scale pollution generated by oil company activity in their area. Cases of cancer and other illnesses have skyrocketed, which is extremely out of character for such an otherwise pristine environment - cancer is a metabolic illness that can be triggered by environmental pollution.

It seems that the levels of corruption in this case are off the charts. As Greg Pallast has reported, the attitude of the lawyers for Chevron has at times been mocking and extremely arrogant, as they literally live like kings from the exploitation of so many other people. In truth, it would be fair to call their actions evil.

As Greg notes on his website, Chevron's lawyers had at least one shock when it came to the evidence against them:

I’ve gone way out of my way to get ChevronTexaco’s side of the story. I finally chased them down in Ecuador’s capital, Quito. I showed them a study of the epidemic of childhood leukemia centered on where their company dumped oil sludge. Here’s their reply:

And it’s the only case of cancer in the world? How many cases of children with cancer do you have in the States?

Texaco’s lawyer, Rodrigo Perez, was chuckling and snorting.

"Scientifically, nobody has proved that crude causes cancer.”

OK, then. But what about the epidemiological study about children with cancer in the Amazon traced to hydrocarbons?

The parents of the dead kids, he said, would have some big hurdles in court:

“If there is somebody with cancer there, they must prove it is caused by crude or by the petroleum industry. And, second, they have to prove that it is OUR crude.”

Perez leaned over with a huge grin.

“Which is absolutely impossible.”

He grinned even harder.

Maybe some guy eating monkeys in the jungle can’t prove it. And maybe that’s because the evidence of oil dumping was destroyed.

Deliberately, by Chevron.

Jaime Varela, Chevron Attorney, Quito, Ecuador

I passed the ChevronTexaco legal duo a document from their files labeled “Personal y confidential.” They read in silence. They stayed silent quite a while. Jaime Varela, Chevron’s lawyer, was wearing his tan golf pants and white shoes, an open shirt and bespoke blue blazer. He had a blow-dried bouffant hairdo much favored by the ruling elite of Latin America and skin whiter than mine, a color also favored by the elite.

Jaime had been grinning too. He read the memo. He stopped grinning.

The key part says “Todos los informes previos deben ser sacados de las oficinas principales y las del campo, y ser destruidos.”

“. . . Reports . . . are to be removed from the division and field offices and be destroyed.”
It came from the company boss in the States, “R. C. Shields, Presidente de la Junta.”

Removed and destroyed. That smells an awful lot like an order to destroy evidence, which in this case means evidence of abandoned pits of deadly drilling residue. Destroying evidence that is part of a court action constitutes fraud.

In the United States, that would be a crime, a jail-time crime. OK, gents, you want to tell me about this document?

Can we have a copy of this?” Varela asked me, pretending he’d never seen it before in his life. I’ll pretend with them, if that gets me information. “Sure. You’ve never seen this?~

The ritual of innocence continued as they asked a secretary to make copies.

We’re sure there’s an explanation,” Varela said. I’m sure there is. “We’ll get back to you as soon as we find out what it is.”

I’m still waiting.

Steven Donzinger

Donzinger is the Harvard educated lawyer, classmate of Barrack Obama, who came in to help the people of Ecuador fight Chevron and who ultimately won. Pallast interviewed Donzinger on the day of his sentancing for 'contempt'.

Today, Steven Donziger will be sentenced, and faces 6 months in prison — on top of the two years of house arrest he’s already served. On the eve of his sentencing, the human rights lawyer who fought Chevron oil and its destruction of the indigenous lands of the Amazon spoke to me about why, despite being destroyed by the oil company, he is smiling.

The reality here is that despite longstanding legal processes being in place in many areas of the world, it only takes those running the system to decide they going to ignore the protocols and go rogue and we have a dramatic descent into even worse tyranny. With so much money involved in cases such as these it is 100% clear that just about anyone who is a judge can be bought off, controlled or silenced.

What can we do when life and death situations are determined by courts that are able to be dominated by those with huge wealth and intent to do so? I think the tribal people of Ecuador, with their deep connection to their nature and the Earth have an innate knowing of how to work together that the rest of the world needs now. It is no accident that such tribes have been heavily targeted for exploitation over the centuries by 'western'; groups who seek to deny the heart of the world for their own insane agendas.

Everyone has involvement in the future of the Earth and these organisations can only operate with YOUR power. Don't give your power to evil people! Note who exactly runs these groups, take time to do some research, change whatever you can in your life to no longer support them. If they are so wealthy that they have fingers in ALL the pies, then withdraw from the system as much as possible, unite with others and FORK THE WORLD!

Forking in software engineering is the process of taking a system, duplicating it and changing it for your own ends, eliminating the errors in the old system that you cannot change for one reason or another.

More on this soon!
