How Nigeria Murdered her Future, A Tale of an unending Nightmare and An Happy Never After

It is exactly a year a ago today, same day, same moment, same time but a different outcome. The day Nigeria murdered her future under the leadership of President M Buhari and Governor Sanwoolu and the vermin and clog in the wheel of efficient running of a National so blessed who goes by the appellation politicians. It’s been one year and we still ask the question who ordered the execution of unarmed vibrant youths protesting for the future of the nation and against police brutality but were only ended by same brutality they protested against.

20th october 2020 started just like any other day in the year 2020 with the youth finally finding their voices and coming together to protest the high handedness of the police force unit called the Sars and demanding for better government and for their voices to be heard. The protest which has started a couple of days before kept on growing as more and more citizens saw the need to let their voices be heard but somehow this was displeasing to the politicians who saw it as an insurrection. They became daunted by the show of unionism the youths were able to pull off with the protest going on in all parts of the country and not willing to stop. They were challenged by the momentum the protests were moving but was not ready to listen to the cries of the nation.

They tried so many attempt to disrupt this protests but it was all foiled so they resulted to a show of force. On the evening of this day a year ago, shortly before the sun went down completely the whole lekki toll gate was surround by armed soldiers while the youths continued their business of protesting not minding the heavy presence of military personnels. Why get scared when you haven’t committed a crime. Not long after the whole scenery was changed to that of a blood bath with gunshots renting the air and everyone running helter skelter in all directions.

It was not too long before we started hearing cries, wailings and mournings. People were being shot by the armed military men. The lights went off and the billboard went off as well. It became clearer that it was an execution, one sponsored by those in power. The youths tried to show the flag of the nation to the soldiers in solidarity but they were shot with the flags. Our once vibrant land was once again drenched with the blood of the innocent youths. The government has once again failed and this time around went too far to executing her future. Instead they decided to answer a protest against brutality with much more brutality. October 20th 2020 was really a day where happiness was snatched from our nation. Father’s lost their son, mother’s lost their children, silblings were killed some rendered orphans. It was a really terrible ending to the protests, a sad one at that and happy never after.

I look with rage the proceedings afterwards and saw how the government was able to success sweep it under the carpet and claimed that the protest was by hoodlums and nobody was killed but the narrative cannot be changed in our minds. History written with blood is never forgotten.

Today we remember the fallen heroes, we remember the bright minds that were murdered and executed but the same people who have sworn to protect them. Today we march and continue to speak for them so that the future of the nation can be brighter but what do they do to us they continue to oppress and show us that they are not ready to listen to dialogue but instead kill and maim the citizens.

I’m writing this just to let the world know that Nigeria would be great someday and it would be by the hands of the citizens . The history written with blood is never forgotten and we would never forget the 20th October Massacre .
