Is It Correct To Conduct Violent Demonstrations Due To Religion?

On Friday I watched a video on Twitter about a mob who stoned and burnt a girl out in the streets. The mob claimed she blasphemy on their prophet Muhammad. The story began in a school WhatsApp group the young lady was in for her class and course update, and if I am correct isn't a class WhatsApp group meant for only lecture updates and anything relating to school activities.

The young lady called out the misuse of the group by some fellow coursemates who posted things about their beliefs and religion of Islam. Deborah(the name of the victim) cautions her coursemate in a voice note, that they should stop posting their beliefs in the course group that wasn't what the group was created for and it's not everyone that shares the belief.

They took it as an offence and also claimed blasphemy against their prophet. The voice note became viral in the school. Deborah wasn't safe in the school again as some people warned her that they are a group of people searching for her, unfortunately for her, the angry mob found her and began to throw stones at her till she passed away.

No one came to her rescue, not even the school management came to her aid. The mob succeeded in killing her, but it was not enough. They still set her dead body ablaze, and the set of people that killed her was shouting for joy like they took pleasure in killing her. I could not wrap my head on how these people enjoyed the crime they committed.

This same set of angry mobs took to the streets, beating and destroying anyone who was a Christian, they burnt down churches and destroyed businesses owned by Christians. Finally, the police apprehended the mastermind of the killing of Deborah and took them to the station.

Immediately a protest began, and the protesters were demanding the immediate release of the mastermind killers behind Deborah's death. These protesters stormed the gate of the police station throwing tear gas at the officers. It's surprising because this same set of people never came out to protest when bandits stormed, killed and destroyed their community, they never came out to protest against insecurity affecting their state but they have the will to protest for killers.

On Twitter, some northern Islam believers in Nigeria are in support of what the mob did to Deborah and that she deserves every bit of what they did. If Nigeria is still struggling from a religious crisis then we are nowhere moving forward as a country. I thought are with her parents, I hope they get justice for their daughter, may her soul rest in peace.
