Something that characterizes the modern world is the ability to keep notes and indicators on the most important social and economic behaviors, of course also sports, where the United States of America is in the lead, having begun to record absolutely everything related to the game of baseball. then transferring that custom to other sports.
Some time ago I read a note about rare indicators, in some cases not very useful, not to say that they only serve as curiosity, that does not provide conclusions of genuine interest beyond the funny or anecdotal.
For example, there is an index carried by a well-known Internet dating site where it states that the period of greatest activity coincides with economic crises (right now it must be exploding with first dates), the justification is that people in times of concern about crises such as wars or the progress of the economy feel more alone.
To continue with strange indicators that compute adverse economic effects, a rather grim one counts the fatal accidents involving bicycles, also here it is shown that in the face of a crisis such as the fuel crisis (right now there is one) people prefer to use that mobility, which is less expensive than traveling by car and therefore the number of accidents grows dramatically.
I could go on mentioning curious indicators of dubious use, but let's go directly to the point I want to deal with, although thinking about it, I cannot fail to mention an indicator on the size of the male reproductive organ, there too, that measurement leads to adverse economic conclusions for those who they present greater figures. Is it the famous compensation law? Sorry I couldn't resist mentioning it.
An index published jointly by Control Risk and the Americas Society/Council of the Americas looks at Latin America, showing figures on the fight against corruption from 2019 to the present.
Among many interesting data, the leadership of Uruguay as the cleanest country in the region is affirmed, although this year it registers a slight decrease compared to the previous one, to my surprise some countries such as Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, and Panama have had a growing and sustained performance in this sensitive aspect. Chile is not surprising, it continues along the same lines. My country, as expected, has been descending in the effort to fight against this ugly and bad habit since 2020.
Bolivia and Venezuela get the worst grades, Brazil and Mexico have numbers that do not exactly lead one to feel proud, showing significant declines year after year, and here we have a curious case, both governments are opposed in terms of their political, social and economic conception, however, when it comes to “putting your hand in the can” as my grandmother would say, they are very similar.
Corruption means more backwardness for ordinary people and in my country, it is very noticeable, a few days ago the anti-corruption office, a state agency in charge of defending the interests of the nation, withdrew from a lawsuit for mismanagement of public funds and illicit association against the acting vice president, a symbol of those bad indicators.
Another well-known indicator says that people in Latin America are "unusually happy" something that contrasts with the enormous hardships that the region has always suffered, however, this has a certain logic. The Nordic countries tend to stand out among the first in those areas that measure the indices of happiness and democracy, their life flows without major economic complications, it is an oasis of equality and tranquility; they have some rules of behavior and perception of life that have been compiled in the so-called Law of Jante, I am not going to go into the description of their postulates but some strangely coincide with the way of being and thinking of Latin Americans, at least until now.
Algo que caracteriza al mundo moderno es la capacidad de llevar anotaciones e indicadores sobre los más importantes comportamientos sociales y económicos, por supuesto también deportivos donde los Estados Unidos de América lleva la delantera habiendo comenzado a registrar absolutamente todo lo relacionado con el juego del baseball, trasladando luego esa costumbre a los demás deportes.
Hace tiempo leí una nota sobre indicadores raros, en algunos casos poco útiles para no decir que solo sirven como curiosidad, que no aportan conclusiones de interés genuino más allá de lo risueño o anecdótico.
Por ejemplo, existe un índice que lleva un conocido sitio de sitas por internet donde afirma que el período de mayor actividad coincide con las crisis económicas (ahora mismo debe estar explotando de primeras citas), la justificación es que las personas en épocas de preocupaciones por crisis como guerras o la marcha de la economía se sienten más solas.
Para continuar con indicadores extraños que computan efectos económicos adversos, uno bastante sombrío cuenta los accidentes mortales donde hay involucradas bicicletas, también aquí se demuestra que ante crisis como la de los combustibles (justo ahora hay una) las personas prefieren utilizar esa movilidad, que es menos costosa, que trasladarse en automóvil y por lo tanto la cantidad de accidentes crece dramáticamente.
Podría seguir mencionando indicadores curiosos y de dudoso uso, pero vamos directamente al punto que deseo tratar, aunque pensándolo bien, no puedo dejar de mencionar un indicador sobre el tamaño del órgano reproductor masculino, allí también esa medición lleva a conclusiones económicas adversar para los que presentan mayores guarismos ¿será la famosa ley de compensaciones?. Lo siento, no pude resistir la tentación de mencionarlo.

Entre muchos datos interesantes se afirma el liderazgo de Uruguay como el país más limpio de la región, aunque este año registra un leve descenso respecto al anterior, para mi sorpresa algunos países como Costa Rica, República Dominicana y Panamá han tenido un desempeño creciente y sostenido en ese tan sensible aspecto. Chile no es sorpresa, continúa en esa misma línea. Mi país, como era esperable, viene descendiendo en el esfuerzo por pelear contra esa fea y mala costumbre desde el 2020.
Bolivia y Venezuela se llevan las peores notas, Brasil y México tienen números que no llevan precisamente a sentirse orgullosos, mostrando descensos importantes año tras año y aquí tenemos un caso curioso, ambos gobiernos son diametralmente opuestos en cuanto a su concepción política, social y económica sin embargo a la hora de “meter la mano en la lata” como diría mi abuelita, son muy similares.
La corrupción significa más atraso para las personas comunes y en mi país se nota mucho, hace pocos días la oficina anticorrupción, organismo del estado encargado de defender los intereses de la nación se retiró de un juicio por mal manejo de fondos públicos y asociación ilícita contra la vicepresidente en ejercicio, todo un símbolo de esos malos indicadores.
Otro indicador conocido dice que las personas en América Latina son “inusualmente felices” algo que contrasta con las enormes penurias que sufre la región desde siempre, sin embargo, esto tiene una cierta lógica. Los países nórdicos suelen destacarse entre los primeros en aquellos rubros que miden los índices de felicidad y democracia, allí la vida fluye sin mayores complicaciones económicas, es un oasis de igualdad y tranquilidad; ellos tienen algunas reglas de comportamiento y de percepción de la vida que han sido recopiladas en la llamada Ley de Jante, no voy a entrar en la descripción de sus postulados pero hay algunos que coinciden extrañamente con la forma de ser y de pensar de los Latinoamericanos, al menos hasta ahora.
