Pont Julien

pont.jpg

This is a picture I took from under Pont Julien in a town called Apt in France last summer.
This Roman stone arch bridge crosses the Cavalon river. At least, that’s what it should do, but when we visited it the river was completely dried up.
The original bridge was built somewhere during the 1st century.
The pont made from limestone which comes from the nearby Luberon mountains.
It has been in use for over 2000 years now. Just a couple of years ago in 2005 they denied cars to cross over the bridge to prevent the bridge being damaged, but you can still cycle over it.
I think it’s really cool to visit ancient structures that have been preserved so good.

Photographing is my passion. Although I like photography in general, nature photography is one of my favourite subjects. I often go out with my camera for a hike to capture the beauty of nature.
