God and Caesar

Homeschoolers fought in the 80s for the right to not be put in a cage and have their children confiscated just because they chose to teach their children to read and write and reason at home instead of in a government propaganda system. In America, the homeschoolers won. Big thanks go to HSLDA (Homeschool Legal Defense Association) which to this day remains a staunch defender of parents against the state (Caesar.)

Now in the new century we find ourselves under attack by the covid tyrants. I am fortunate that my state of North Carolina was forced to settle a case brought by some churches against the lockdowns. As a result, counties and cities have decided to avoid further lawsuits of that sort by allowing an exemption to their idiotic "health" orders for "First Amendment activities." Homeschool coops had to decide whether homeschooling was a First Amendment activity. Most of us are taking the stand that educating children is part of our commitment to God and may not be infringed by Caesar.

The new challenge today is that homeschooling's success has made it almost mainstream. This has attracted a variety of parents who are not the hard-core true believers. Now in addition to hippie free spirits and Bible-believers, there are those who want the physical safety of homeschooling (compared to bullying and lack of discipline or unfair discipline) without being truly committed to a lifestyle of individual responsibility and of respect for others' convictions as well as one's own.

An example: One homeschool coop had a woman go on social media ranting that the coop's first day was almost normal--as in actual normal, not "new normal." She could not believe all homeschoolers did not just obey the government mindlessly. When we in the group responded with measured tone, kindly explaining that the group was meeting in a church and allowing families to make their own choices regarding the health of the children God had given them, the woman whined that she would have to find a "safe" place for her child. To make things worse, she dissed the group on her own facebook page, where all her communist friends cheered her on, some even bragging they double-masked their children. She also bragged about reporting them to the county covid snitch line.

Please note that nobody bullied anyone who chose to wear a mask or mask their own children. At the coops where I teach, we don't single out masks any more than we would single out glasses or braces. R-E-S-P-E-C-T is the preferred way of life. It is the covid fascists who will not respect any individual choices.

We must be vigilant as even the homeschooling community has been infiltrated by government snitches and we must defend to the death our First Amendment rights.
