Proof of Power

There are a lot of terms that appeared in our vocabulary with crypto and blockchain. One of the terms is Proof of Stake (POS) which has a huge role on Hive, then we have a community called Proof of Brain and a lot of other terms. Some of you may be searching for proof of power now, to see what my title means. You may not find it, but proof of power do exists!

About a month ago I had a conversation with @depressedfuckup, about his username. He had a post about his username -> Does My Username Put Me At A Disadvantage? When I saw the post I started smiling because unlike him, who was a newbie then (he still is by the way :P) I've seen a lot on Hive over the four and a half years I've been here for.

your username counts the least here. The most precious thing you can have on Hive is your reputation and I don't mean the number next to your name. Once you are labeled as plagiarizer, cheater or abuser, you can have any username as would count for nothing.

So you should focus on posting quality content, stay out of plagiarism, recycling content, engage with other users, build your followers in an organic way, by providing interesting content for them and you'll be gold, fuckup username or not :) source

Even though it wasn't the answer he was looking for, it seems like he understood what I meant and hopefully he has since seen what I meant by that.

Three days ago I saw this post by acidyo -> Give value to the community and the community will have your back. It's an interesting one, so if you've missed it, it's not too late (it's never too late actually) to read it.

This was my comment to the post. Little did I know then, what was going to happen in the next 24 hours and that we're going to get another proof of what I was saying.

So long story short, after acidyo's post, I read a post from blind-spot and at the bottom of the post I saw his request for help to buy a laptop. I knew he's not going to get far with it as the request would go unnoticed, so I decided to act and put together a post for the community:

The reaction of the community was/is absolutely amazing. At the time of writing, there are 51 reblogs, the post is at $219.54, there are 4 tips, 438 Hive in total and 1 HBD. Around 135 Hive transferred to his wallet and another batch is going to be transferred tonight or tomorrow. There are 78 comments on the post (my replies included and I still have to reply to quite a few) and it's not over yet as the payout is in 5 days.

I saw users voting and commenting, that two days ago had no idea blind-spot exists. They read his story for the first time two days ago, yet they wanted to contribute, help in anyway they could.

This is not the first time users get help on Hive. Both blind-spot and priyanarc fled Ukrain in March, arrived in Poland and after 5 days they were kicked out of the shelter as none of them is Ukrainian citizen. Both of them were offered housing by Hive users they never knew before.

Another case new users may not be aware of is the help the Hive community has sent to Ukraine. Those who were stuck (and still are) in the war zone got help, to be able to survive. Then the NFT For Peace project came alive on Hive. @zirochka, the Ambassador of the project, who has been in Kiev ever since the war started, has been receiving the founds and distributing to volunteers all over the hot areas.

These Ukrainian people have been getting help (food, medicine, diapers, clothes etc.) from Hive. No one knows these people, yet, many of us contributed, trying to keep them alive and help them survive.

When the war broke out, hundreds of us were worrying about those stuck in the war zone, day in day out. When we woke up in the mornin, the first thing was to check Hive to see if they are still alive, if there was news about them. Needless to mention that these are users we've never met in real life, we only know them from Hive. My country has a long border common with Ukraine. I was never in a real danger, yet I was offered shelter by several users I know only from Hive, in case sh*t hits the fan.

The last one was a young community member, who has tragically passed away recently. She's been on the platform for a month or so and yet the help and the support her family members got from the community was fantastic.

These are not the only cases when the community came together to help others. These are just the recent cases that happened this year.

However, not everyone gets the same treatment. Over the years we've seen several users, asking for help and many who have abused the kindness of others. I'm not going to go into details, I'm going to just say, Hive is to use, not to abuse and that goes for the kindness of people on Hive as well.

There's always someone frustrated, angry, pissed of about things on Hive, which is not new as we live in the era of entitlement. There are also a lot of spammers, scammers, plagiarizers, circle jerks, who think scamming a few $-s every day is a very good business.

In case you've been looking for the definition of Proof of Power, I just gave it to you above, with hard evidence. If this is not enough for you, then I don't know what is. These things are not written down anywhere, there are no rules about how to help others. These things happen, because there are users willing to help and others who deserve to be helped. It doesn't matter what your username is, you can be depressedfuckup or happyasshole or whatever you wish, what matters is what you do here. That's your reputation, not the number next to your name. When others turn their back on you, Hive is here. You choose where you want to belong to.

Last, but not least, I'd like to say thank you again, to everyone who participated in this last funding campaign! I'm sure blind-spot will be able to buy the laptop soon. Thank you everyone!
