we stayed a month in kohlapur because my wife had some work done there while i had plenty of time on my own. i visited some of the city's main attractions but mostly i roamed the streets with my camera in the old parts of the city- the parts that have not been modernized or mentioned in a tourist guide.
i came upon an industrial area largely undisturbed by technological advances in the last 25 or more years.
when i took this shot a couple of the workers noticed me and shortly thereafter the entire crew dropped what they were working on and came out in the street wondering who i was and why i was taking photos of their piles of junk. they were very curious about what i saw that could possibly be of interest. i showed them the photo and told them how much i liked it. when they saw the photo some were puzzled but at least a couple of them
opened their eyes to some beauty where they had never noticed any before.
the leaders were visibly proud, and i was offered the customary chai. as often is the case they lined up and asked me to take their photo
each of them, especially the one with the goggles had a good look at the camera screen as i zoomed in on their faces. i couldn't understand most of their talk but we all shared a good laugh.
they briefly showed me what they were working on and went back to work
