Determination: Episode 9

Whenever there's nothing at home she would always make something available. She always used her initiative to make wrong right. "Oh God! Why me!" and he started crying.

Tina was not happy with the way Afolabi always cared for his children. At times she will say "are they babies? Please stop worrying about them". Whenever Afolabi was not around she would make sure she made life unbearable for the children. She wouldn't give the children breakfast meal and would still force them to work beyond their capacity, she would send them to purchase firewood from two kilometers away under the hot sun instead of having them fetch the woods from nearby, and if they don't come back early she would beat the daylight out of them.

The children noticed that as soon as their Father came back all hostilities would cease. The children wondered why their stepmother could be so wicked, and developed so much hatred most especially for the last born because the Husband loved him so much.

At the other end of the city, Uncle Yemi is the brother in-law of Aunty Dupe and he liked Bisi so much because of her cheerfulness always. She is hardworking, obedient and nice.

"Bisi am not surprised you are doing well, you see, you remind me of a story my late father told me" Uncle Yemi said "There was a young girl who came from a very poor family, so she had to run errands, wash plates, fetch water for as many people needed her services in order to feed herself. This continued for a long time, that she almost became a public servant. She is always very smart and cheerful always and people loved her and always prayed for her that she will see helpers wherever she goes.

As young as she was, she would also follow her parent to the farm, while her parents were busy gathering firewood, she would be checking under the leaves in search of snails and most times, she would get almost a basket full, of which she will sell part and the family would cook the rest for meal. In fact, she could be called the family bread winner.

People noticed her seriousness so much that a particular family promised to help her. They enrolled her into the nearby primary school and take care of her responsibilities. But she was still leaving with her parents. Immediately she was promoted to class two in the secondary school, the couple sponsoring her schooling were transfered out of the community.

Toluwalase was not happy but there was nothing she could do about it, whenever she got home she would always shed tears, and this made her father sad. But he would always encourage her by speaking words of hope to her.

One glorious morning by 5am, her father called her.............
