Unrequited - original poetry

I opened my eyes to
a mother's affection,
stayed in her cocoon,
reality struck soon.
The world plucked me
cruelly from her arms
to face its ugly side,
part of innocence, died.
Friendship brought love
beyond the blood-ties,
Shared laughter bloomed
as adulthood loomed.
Crushes crushed the heart,
ephemeral love beat it wild,
finding the one spoken in lore,
became a soul-scarring chore.
Lived to get love from others,
never realizing where it starts,
had I not been so short-sighted
my love won't be unrequited.
