POBphotocontest BLUE - Bluebonnet State Flower of Texas

This is my entry for the #pobphotocontest round BLUE.

My entry is the Bluebonnet. The Bluebonnet is the state flower of Texas. The cotton boll and the cactus were two that were hot contenders but the Bluebonnet finally won out. This was back in 1901 when the Texas Legislature decided the state really needed to have a state flower.

But there are several different species of Bluebonnet native to Texas. The debate continued for 70 years and in 1971 the statue was amended to include any other variety of bluebonnet not heretofore recorded. Due to this, the State of Texas has 6 state flowers since there are six different species of Bluebonnets currently native to Texas.

Honestly, I just love the flower and collect seeds and spread them in the backyard to try and get more to grow there.
