POB Word of the Week : Power #005

That's the first month of WOTW done with... what a ride so far.

This week has been incredibly difficult to judge. I think I'm going to need a nice hot soak later with some soothing vibes because my brain isn't used to this much activity.

Before I get to the winners, I'd just like to start with a paradox I stumbled onto this morning and how I'm going to tackle it practically, right here in this contest.

Judging all of these amazing entries and noticing the effort put in by everyone makes me want to give prizes to all of those who put together something special. A participation prize, if you will.

The problem with doing this is that it'll damage the competitive atmosphere and will diminish the efforts of those who truly went the extra mile.

For this reason, I'm increasing the rewards for each position by 50 POB each (I've had a remarkable week for author rewards) and I'm sharing my summaries of feedback below the winners also.

Let's get to the winners.

The development for the Merit System is well underway.

I'm planning to focus more on the discussion and building of the system this week, you may see a post appear that looks to dig deeper into the values of both creative and informative works respectively. I also want to weigh up how much engagement should factor into the winning decision also.

This week's contest has really helped with understanding how the balance can be achieved (plus the realisation that this method of judging every Sunday morning isn't ideal), but I'd prefer feedback before going full steam ahead.

I'm going to be dropping comments on the post in the form of questions to try and iron out some thoughts I've had.

If you want to be involved in the discussions on the Merit post, drop me a comment below letting me know and I'll be sure to tag your name so you can join the discussion easily.

Good luck to all with this week's word. I'll see you all in the comments as usual.
