En esta publicación continuo con la descripción de los árboles frutales y plantas de verduras de nuestro huerto familiar que tenemos en el patio de la casa.
Dátil, son árboles grandes, el que tenemos nosotros mide aproximadamente 20 metros de alto. Su fruto tiene forma elipsoidal prolongada mide aproximadamente 4 centímetros de largo y 2 centímetros de ancho. Su parte comestible es carnosa, suave, dulce y blanca. El fruto es de color ámbar, cuando se pasa de maduro se torna de color marrón. Nuestro árbol este año no ha dado buena cosecha, pero el año pasado y en años anteriores dio muchos frutos. Con esta fruta se hace dulce, confitura, conserva, entre otros.
Mandarina, nuestros árboles miden aproximadamente 3 metros de altura. Su fruto es redondo de color amarillo o naranja intenso, mide aproximadamente 4 centímetros de largo y de 6 a 7 centímetros de ancho. En su interior contiene gajos con un rico sabor entre dulce y ácido, en la cocina se usa para hacer jugo, manjar, budín, para preparar aliños, condimentar pescados, carne, pollo, entre otros.
Auyama, es una planta que se extiende en el suelo en forma de enredadera la mía mide aproximadamente 7 metros de largo. Su fruto es grande de corteza dura, su forma varía algunos son aplanados, redondeados, curvos, de superficie lisa o rugosa de color amarillo y verde, aún no se qué forma tendrá esta porque apenas ha comenzado a dar fruto. Con este fruto se puede preparar torta, quesillo, arepas, crema, en la sopa de carne, pescado, pollo, como contorno, entre otros.
Ñame blanco y amarillo, esta planta se caracteriza por tener tallos en forma de espiral y hojas verde oscuro brillante acorazonadas. Se extiende en el suelo y se enreda en otras plantas que tenga cerca. Mide aproximadamente de 3 a 4 metros de largo, las nuestras están en proceso de crecimiento. La cosecha se extrae entre los 7 y 12 meses después de la siembra. Su fruto externamente es de color chocolate claro y textura áspera. En su interior los que tenemos son de carne blanca y amarilla. Se puede comer como acompañante de carnes, en sopas, asado, horneado, a vapor, frito, puré, en pasteles, magdalenas y pan. También a este se otorgan propiedades medicinales.
Chaco, es una planta que se extiende en el suelo, de sus raíces brota el fruto un tubérculo que puede presentar forma redonda, ovalada según la especie. Su color externo puede ser blanco, amarillo o naranja, sus hojas son ovaladas de color verde oscuro. Nuestro cultivo es el chaco de carne amarilla de sabor dulce agradable. Se consume asado, frito, en sopas, crema, como acompañamiento, tortas, galletas y postres.
Estas son todas las plantas que tenemos en la actualidad, espero sembrar de nuevo los cultivos que he tenido en años anteriores, porque debido a la situación que se vive en nuestro país, los rubros que cosechamos para el consumo del grupo familiar nos ayuda a equilibrar un poco nuestros gastos. Cuando recoja la cosecha de las plantas que aún están en espera de madurar sus frutos, haré un post para mostrar a la comunidad sus productos.

Mandarin, our trees are approximately 3 meters high. Its fruit is round, yellow or deep orange, approximately 4 centimeters long and 6 to 7 centimeters wide. In its interior it contains segments with a rich flavor between sweet and acid, in the kitchen it is used to make juice, manjar, pudding, to prepare dressings, to season fish, meat, chicken, among others.
Auyama, is a plant that spreads on the ground in the form of a vine, mine is approximately 7 meters long. Its fruit is large with hard bark, its shape varies some are flattened, rounded, curved, smooth or rough surface of yellow and green, I still do not know what form it will take because it has just begun to bear fruit. With this fruit you can prepare cake, quesillo, arepas, cream, in meat soup, fish, chicken, as a garnish, among others.
White and yellow yam, this plant is characterized by spiral-shaped stems and shiny dark green heart-shaped leaves. It spreads on the ground and gets entangled in other plants nearby. It is approximately 3 to 4 meters long, ours are in the process of growing. The crop is harvested 7 to 12 months after planting. Externally, its fruit is light chocolate colored and rough texture. On the inside, the ones we have are white and yellow flesh. It can be eaten as an accompaniment to meats, in soups, roasted, baked, steamed, fried, mashed, in cakes, muffins and bread. It also has medicinal properties.
Chaco, is a plant that spreads on the ground, from its roots sprouts the fruit, a tuber that can be round or oval depending on the species. Its external color can be white, yellow or orange and its leaves are oval and dark green. Our crop is the chaco, with yellow flesh and a pleasant sweet taste. It is consumed roasted, fried, in soups, cream, as an accompaniment, cakes, cookies and desserts.
These are all the plants that we currently have, I hope to plant again the crops that I have had in previous years. Due to the situation we are living in our country, the items we harvest for the consumption of the family group helps us to balance our expenses a little.
