In wildlife, sometimes one sacrifice or force sacrifice means the other life's means of survival. The predators eating their prey, is a force sacrificed made by the prey to feed the predator to keep them alive, and it is also to control their total numbers.
Below is the remnant of a leaf that has almost completely destroyed by a bunch of small caterpillars. All the easy part is almost gone, leaving a small about of hardened part of the leaf only.
