News Desk - a poem by an anonymous author.

News Desk

We can see atoms
and move through plasma
faster than the speed of light

and it's just another day in the news.
The smiling politician looks trustworthy
on the pamphlet, but it's unlikely

that they wrote it themselves.
The box of medication barely
does its job.

Empty coffee mugs
smell worst just as
the mouldy coffee dries up.

I have a collection
of old dice and playing cards.
The stain from where my friend

spilled a drink
will never be scoured off.
An obsession with uncertainty

can result in a fear of germs.
Being brilliant with code
can get you persecuted.

I dream of future machines.
