Mi esposo y yo tenemos un año y medio en Colombia y nunca había mostrado mi trabajo acá en Bogotá.
Yo soy artesana desde hace varios años, diseño accesorios para damas y en Venezuela tuve muy buenos momentos hasta que al crisis arropó casi por completo mi trabajo.
Desde que emigré he ido trabajando de a poco, vendiéndole a mis conocidas aquí y también por las redes sociales, pero nunca había salido a un bazar o feria como le llaman aquí.

I recently lived a new and very exciting experience as a migrant.
My husband and I have been in Colombia for a year and a half and I had never shown my work here in Bogota.
I have been a craftswoman for several years, I design accessories for ladies and in Venezuela I had very good times until the crisis almost completely destroyed my work.
Since I emigrated I have been working little by little, selling to my acquaintances here and also through social networks, but I had never gone to a bazaar or fair as they call it here.
Cuando llegué de unos días de vacaciones tenía un e-mail, con una invitación para participar en una feria con mi proyecto y mostrar mi trabajo.
El evento se llevó a cabo organizado por Diapora Migrante, una organización de arte y cultura en Bogotá.
Entonces dije que sí, a tan solo tres días del evento, así que mi esposo y yo nos pusimos a correr para hacer una bonita presentación.
Cuando me alistaba en Venezuela para los bazares tenía a mi mama y a mi hermana que me ayudaban en todo y así yo iba fabricando más.
En esta ocasión tenía muchas piezas hechas, ya que todos los días yo fabrico así no hayan ventas porque me permite tener siempre cosas variadas.
Así que mi esposo me ayudó a pintar las bolsitas con que entregaríamos las piezas, mientras to recortaba todas las etiquetas que íbamos a obsequiar con los accesorios.
Él fue mi mejor ayudante en esta feria.
When I came back from a few days of vacation I had an e-mail, with an invitation to participate in a fair with my project and show my work.
The event was organized by Diapora Migrante, an arts and culture organization in Bogota.
So I said yes, just three days before the event, so my husband and I were off and running to make a nice presentation.
When I was getting ready in Venezuela for the bazaars I had my mom and my sister to help me with everything and so I was making more.
This time I had a lot of pieces made, since I make every day even if there are no sales because it allows me to always have a variety of things.
So my husband helped me paint the bags that we would deliver the pieces in, while he cut out all the labels that we were going to give away with the accessories.
He was my best helper at this fair.
Dejamos todo listo para despertarnos e irnos a trabajar.
La verdad que ir a esta clase de eventos es agotador, no es solo fabricar la mercancía que la hago toda a mano y yo sola. Es fuerte también planificar siempre lo que se llevara, desde el mantel hasta lo que usaremos para mostrar los productos.
El día de las ferias cargamos nuestros peroles en un taxi y nos fuimos, montamos nuestro espacio en una mesa pequeña que nos facilitaban en el evento y pusimos nuestra mejor actitud.
We left everything ready to wake up and go to work.
The truth is that going to this kind of events is exhausting, it's not just about making the merchandise, which I do all by hand and by myself. It is also hard to always plan what to wear, from the tablecloth to what we will use to show the products.
The day of the fairs we loaded our peroles in a cab and left, we set up our space on a small table provided by the event and put our best attitude.
La verdad es que fue una sorpresa para mi que a una hora de haber comenzado el evento ya estábamos vendiendo y recibiendo muchos elogios por mi trabajo.
Colombia es un país caracterizado por sus buenos diseñadores de moda, por sus tejidos increíbles y por su artesanía hermosamente realizada, así que recibir tantos elogios de mi trabajo me hizo muy feliz.
Vendí muchísimas piezas, recibí grandes mensajes de afecto y aprobación hacía mis diseños y la verdad valió la pena tanto esfuerzo y sobretodo tanta constancia para tener momentos así.
The truth is that it was a surprise for me that within an hour of starting the event we were already selling and receiving many compliments for my work.
Colombia is a country known for its good fashion designers, for its incredible fabrics and for its beautifully made craftsmanship, so to receive so much praise for my work made me very happy.
I sold many pieces, I received great messages of affection and approval for my designs and it was really worth so much effort and above all so much perseverance to have moments like this.
Todo el trabajo hecho a mano es fuerte, requiere de mucha dedicación y delicadeza. Hay personas que siempre quieren que regales tu trabajo, que subestiman el valor de llevar unos zarcillos bordados a mano... Sin embargo en este lugar me sentí muy valorada, sentí que las personas respetaban el trabajo que lleva crear ese tipo de artesanías.
Así que quería compartir con ustedes este sentimiento de que todo es posible, y que a veces nos queremos rendía y te pasan cosas que te demuestran cuanto vales, cuan fuerte haz sido y cuando fuerte deberías de continuar.
No te rindas cuando terceros desprecien tu oficio, no creas en comentarios que naden muchas veces desde la ignorancia, cree en tí y sigue adelante porque lo que te separa de los logros es el miedo.
All handmade work is strong, requires a lot of dedication and delicacy. There are people who always want you to give away your work, who underestimate the value of wearing handmade embroidered earrings.... However in this place I felt very valued, I felt that people respected the work it takes to create such crafts.
So I wanted to share with you this feeling that everything is possible, and that sometimes we want to give up and things happen to you that show you how much you are worth, how strong you have been and how strong you should continue.
Do not give up when others despise your craft, do not believe in comments that often swim from ignorance, believe in yourself and go ahead because what separates you from the achievements is fear.
