Wednesday Walk: Verandah or Not

Wednesday Walks is the brainchild of @tattoodjay, and I enjoy it very much!

A veranda or verandah is a roofed, open-air gallery or porch, attached to the outside of a building. A veranda is often partly enclosed by a railing and frequently extends across the front and sides of the structure.

Most of the old homes in town have terraces, a patio or veranda, like this home.

Many of the succeeding homes built in the 1925s did not have this feature.

The homeowner opted to bring seating outside, given the large trees in front of their home.

It's premium to have space for outdoor seating.

Outdoor seating is ideal in California!

This home has no space for outdoor seating. Luckily, they have a yard!

This one does not have space either!

Going back to old town and I was saying... most of the old homes is my town have outdoon seating like this home that was built in 1876. This solid redwood home features Corinthian columns with massive balustrades at the entrance, original glass windows, and a widow's walk in the roof. Not only do they sitting in the front yard, but a gazebo as well.

Aside from a matching gazebo, it features a solarium imported from England, a "carriage house" garage, a basement theater, and extensive stained glass work crafted by the owner.

This house received the towns Heritage Home award in 1989.
