Hi Hivers! Today I join @littlegremlin's initiative to talk about 3 things we usually do when, unfortunately, we run out of internet service at home. I must say that this initiative caught my attention because I relate myself a lot with the topic, being that the internet service in my country, Venezuela, is very poor. There is no worse feeling than to be surfing the web, either doing some work or research, or simply in search of entertainment and then find that the internet connection fails. There is nothing left but to find something to do to try and alleviate the situation as best we can. Here is what I usually do.
¡Hola Hivers! Hoy me uno a la iniciativa de @littlegremlin para hablar de 3 cosas que solemos hacer cuando, por desgracia, nos quedamos sin el servicio de internet en casa. Debo decir que esta iniciativa llamó mucho mi atención puesto que me identifico muchísimo con la temática, siendo que el servicio de internet en mi país, Venezuela, es muy deficiente. No hay peor sensación que estar navegando en la web, ya sea haciendo algún trabajo o investigación, o simplemente en búsqueda de entretenimiento y entonces ver que la conexión de internet falla. No queda más que buscar algo que hacer para tratar de paliar la situación lo mejor que podamos. Aquí les cuento lo que normalmente hago yo.
CHECK ALL EXTERNAL CONNECTIONS AND THE PC TROUBLESHOOTER
The first thing I do when I run out of internet as a general rule is to check all external connections, be it network cables, modem, router, plugs, etc; and I do it this way because I know my devices and I know that they already have enough use, so it would not be unreasonable to think that any of them could be failing and need to be replaced, not counting all the times that there are power cuts or power outages and the devices suffer these onslaughts, and could be damaged.
Once I am convinced that this is not the source of the problem, I start checking the internet connection troubleshooter on the PC, to get an idea of what might be going on. Many times the troubleshooter tells me that there is a problem with the DNS and there is the indicator that I am not getting a signal from the telephone exchange. Then I give up and start doing things other than web browsing while the service is being restored.
CHEQUEAR TODAS LAS CONEXIONES EXTERNAS Y EL SOLUCIONADOR DE PROBLEMAS DE LA PC
Lo primero que hago al quedarme sin internet por regla general es revisar todas las conexiones externas, llámese cables de red, modem, router, enchufes, etc; y lo hago así porque conozco mis aparatos y sé que ya tienen bastante uso, por lo que no sería descabellado pensar que alguno de ellos podría estar fallando y necesitara ser remplazado, eso sin contar todas las veces que hay cortes o bajones de energía eléctrica y los aparatos sufren estos embates, pudiéndose dañar.
Una vez que me convenzo que eso no es la raíz del problema, empiezo a revisar el solucionador de problemas de conexión de internet en la PC, para tener una idea de lo que puede estar pasando. Muchas veces el solucionador te indica un problema con el DNS y ahí está el indicador de que no me está llegando señal desde la central telefónica. Entonces en ese momento me doy por vencida y comienzo a hacer otras cosas ajenas a la navegación web, mientras se restituye el servicio.
PLAYING MY MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS
Music is without a doubt one of my best allies in times of boredom. I am blessed to play several musical instruments such as the guitar, the bass guitar, the drums and minor percussion, so usually when I run out of internet and I have some free time, I start making music, either to review old songs or learn new ones, compose, or just entertain myself while the hours go by. Music is a very important part of my life, because it relaxes my senses and enriches me in all aspects; I consider it one of the most sublime kinds of art that exist and a universal language, since you don't need to know a specific language to enjoy the melodies and rhythms that come from all over the world.
TOCAR MIS INSTRUMENTOS MUSICALES
La música es sin lugar a dudas una de mis mejores aliadas en tiempos de aburrimiento. Tengo la bendición de tocar varios instrumentos musicales como la guitarra, el bajo, la batería y la percusión menor, así que generalmente cuando me quedo sin internet y tengo un lapso de tiempo libre, me pongo a hacer música, ya sea repasar canciones antiguas o aprender nuevas, componer, o simplemente entretenerme mientras pasan las horas. La música es una parte muy importante en mi vida, porque relaja mis sentidos y me enriquece en todos los aspectos; considero que es uno de los tipos de arte más sublimes que existen y un lenguaje universal, ya que no necesitas saber un idioma en específico para disfrutar de las melodías y ritmos que nos llegan de todas partes del mundo.
CRAFTSMAKING
An activity that helps me to relieve tension and that I find really relaxing, when there is no internet or in any leisure time, is making crafts. For example, lately I have been making Christmas ornaments with recyclable materials, to renovate the tree next December; mainly I have been able to make stars of different sizes and shapes, I use paints that I had stored for some time and that are still in good condition, and I give them the final touches with glitter and white glue, which would be the only elements that I have had to buy as such. These activities are not only fun, but I can also save a lot of money, since I reuse elements that are considered disposable, not to mention that all recycling is an ecological, environmentally friendly activity.
HACER MANUALIDADES
Una actividad que me ayuda a aliviar las tensiones y que me resulta realmente relajante, cuando no hay internet o en cualquier tiempo de ocio, es hacer manualidades. Por ejemplo, en los últimos tiempos he estado realizando adornos navideños con materiales reciclables, para renovar el arbolito en próximo diciembre; principalmente he podido confeccionar estrellas de diferentes tamaños y formas, utilizo pinturas al frío que tenía guardadas desde hace un tiempo y que aún están en buenas condiciones, y les doy los toques finales con escarcha y pega blanca, que serían los únicos elementos que he tenido que comprar como tal. Estas actividades no solo resultan entretenidas, sino que también me puedo ahorrar mucho dinero, pues que reutilizo elementos que se consideran desechables, sin dejar de mencionar que todo reciclaje es una actividad ecológica, amigable con el medio ambiente.
