Hola, queridos amigos y amigas de Hive y de Gems. Escribir, esa condición exclusiva de los seres humanos, es uno de los ejercicios más cotidianos de la humanidad. Desde que fue creada, hace más de 5000 años, la escritura se convirtió en uno de los vehículos más importantes del desarrollo de esa misma humanidad. A través de la escritura, las sociedades han podido transmitir y, sobre todo, preservar, los rasgos más característicos de la cultura de cada una de ellas, lo cual sólo era posible, antes de su aparición, por el lenguaje hablado (oralidad).

La escritura tiene su origen en la necesidad de conservar información que, luego, sería necesaria para el ser humano, cosa que era mucho más compleja si se hacía en forma memotécnica. Sin embargo, ya desde hace unos 30000 años, se conoce de métodos diversos creados para poder transmitir en el tiempo, aspectos vinculados a la vida de las sociedades del pasado. En el continente americano, por ejemplo se conoce de técnicas matemáticas de una complejidad avanzada que le permitían a pueblos como los mayas o los incas, hacer cálculos que les permitieron estimar aspectos como la construcción de acueductos y sistemas de riego, lo cual da cuenta de su avanzado ingenio.

Entonces, como hemos visto, podemos concluir que los seres humanos escribimos por la necesidad histórica de perpetuar toda la información que nos sirva para transmitir el conocimiento, preservarlo de la pérdida de la memoria que acarrea como riesgo la oralidad y utilizar todo ese cúmulo de sabiduría en el desarrollo de nuestras sociedades. Desde el punto de vista individual, la escritura nos da la posibilidad de la creación literaria y su extensión en el tiempo. Sin ella, resultaría imposible para nosotros conocer hoy en día, las obras creadas hace 200, 300 0 500 años. De igual manera, podemos proyectar hacia el futuro toda la creación que hoy en día se produce para el tiempo futuro. Como vemos, la escritura es, en todo sentido, una herramienta para el desarrollo de nuestra cultura y su expansión. Por eso, escribimos.
