There is a lot of history between the walls of this castle and the city that borders it, since many centuries ago the Beja region had been occupied by nomadic settlers! there are records that mention that the area had been occupied since prehistory and between the 3rd and 4th centuries the construction of this fortification had been carried out!πŸ‘¨β€πŸ«πŸ‘¨β€πŸŽ“

Although it is believed that the castle could have been built in the Romanesque era, there is no document that mentions such construction, so there is speculation about its origin, making the castle a great mystery! since with the passing of centuries it underwent several restorations and improvements! Many battles took place between the walls as the castle belonged to the Arabs for a long time! and some kings of Portugal tried to conquer it many times! without any success!🚩🧭🏯🏰

Until in 1162 King Fernando G, achieved victory against the Arabs and managed to conquer the castle! Anyone who knows history knows that the Arabs were not a difficult tribe to defeat and after a few years the castle was reconquered by the Arabs and then in 1200 the castle passed definitively to Portugal!πŸ‘ΈπŸ€΄πŸ‘³β€β™‚οΈ

One of the things that made the castle suffer from several reconstructions was its location! Beja was an area that was under Arab rule from 700 to 1200 we are talking about many centuries, so many battles took place throughout the peninsula! even the Spanish arrived in the area to fight the Arabs who also had to defend themselves from the Portuguese attack!πŸ’₯

If you intend to visit the castle, I inform you that it is not easy to park your vehicle! so you must prepare to pay for a parking lot, I also inform you that the entrance is not free and has a cost of 3 euro! but it is worth the experience. I liked it a lot. It has a beautiful view of the entire city of Beja and we can see the Alentejo lands!πŸ€©πŸ‘€

I would like to add that the castle has a tower called "torre del homage" and it was inspired by Don Dinis, it is very famous for its beautiful architecture considered an example of the medieval style! It is more than 45 meters high, being one of the highest in Beja! We can still see evidence of a great wall that surrounded the city of Beja in the medieval era!😏😏
