Hello Hivers, this morning I wil be taking you through the process of how I made a double breasted wasitcoat, very single and straight forward. You can also try following the process.

MATERIALS USED

  • Fabric ( irish material)
  • linen
  • Hair stay
  • Paper stay
  • Thread
  • Buttons

MEASURING AND CUTTING PROCESS

For sewing a waistcoat, these 3 measurements are essential:

  • Shoulder
  • Chest
  • length ( length of a waistcoat is normaly an inch below your waist)

In cutting the fabrics, you put the cloth tips together then rule a straight line and start your measurements.

Firstly you measure the shoulder taking away 1.5 inches to center at the shoulder since it sleeveless, then 2 inches as shoulder rest from that point, then the armhole, a bit wider than that of shirt considering how big the person is, then the chest adding sewing allownaces, we didnt put button allowances because we added 3 inches as overlap after we rule our straight line, then the length. Then i joined the dotted line and cut the fabrics.

Before sewing, I applied hair stay to the fabrics to make it more smooth.

Linen was used as the back.

SEWING PROCESS

Firstly i fixed the pocket, ironed it, joined the inner, always bigger than the body itsef, then i trim to the body size, then i joined them together leaving the shoulder and the sides.

Then I turned it outside and ironed very well. Thereafter i joined to the back leaving like 3 inches to turn it outside to see the outcome.
