Iglesia Santa Ines (Cumana Venezuela) | Historical Background

In Cumana we find one of the most important touristic attractions and it’s the cathedral “Santa Ines.” It´s located in the historic center of the city, specially on “Calle Sucre,” next to “Parque Guaiqueri. Previously there was a parish church but because of the earthquakes and also due to the passage of time the structure was destroyed. This church was knowN as “ Ermita del Carmen” and it was a rather modest and smaller church.

So … the new church was built right in this place. It was the military engineer Casimiro Isava who was in charge of carriying out this construction on the 19th century. The name “Santa Ines” was given by Pope Pio XI and their official construction started in 1862.

Inside the church it´s possible to find different decorative elements such as paintings and a beautiful murals and different white washed frizzed. Santa Ines is a bright space, with a lovely view when the citizens celebrates Sunday masses and many processions like: “Dia de Santa Ines”, “Cruz de Mayo”. It is a church that today can be visited to enjoy the rich ancient interiors.

Hola a todos, espero que estén muy bien. Este post es para conocer este gran monumento histórico llamado "Iglesia santa Ines."

En Cumaná encontramos una de las atracciones turísticas más importantes y es la catedral "Santa Inés". Está ubicada en el centro histórico de la ciudad especialmente en la "Calle Sucre" junto al Parque Guaiqueri. Anteriormente existía una iglesia parroquial pero por los terremotos y también por el paso del tiempo la estructura fue destruida. Esta iglesia era conocida como "Ermita del Carmen" y era una iglesia bastante modesta y pequeña.

Así que... la nueva iglesia se construyó justo en este lugar. Fue el ingeniero militar Casimiro Isava quien se encargó de llevar a cabo esta construcción en el siglo XIX. El nombre "Santa Inés" fue dado por el papa Pío XI y su construcción oficial comenzó en 1862.

En el interior de la iglesia es posible encontrar diferentes elementos decorativos como pinturas y un hermoso mural de la iglesia y diferentes frizadas blancas. Santa Inés, es un espacio luminoso, con una preciosa vista donde los ciudadanos celebran las misas dominicales y muchas procesiones como: "dia de santa ines" "cruz de mayo" . Es una iglesia que hoy se puede visitar para disfrutar de sus ricos interiores con varios años de antigüedad.
