Art Exhibition part II

A few weeks ago, I went to an exhibition featuring some of the works by HR. Giger and Hajime Sorayama. The previous post featured the famed "Alien" artist H.R. Giger and this time I'll be focussing on Sorayama: an " illustrator known for his precisely detailed, erotic portrayals of feminine robots, along with his design work on the original Sony AIBO." (from the wikipedia entry on the artist).

This photo is from the second exhibition, which was a joint exhibition of Hajime Sorayama and H.R. Gigers estate. The juxtaposition of these two artists was very interesting. Though the appear to be quite different initially, Giger's biomechanoid motifs and Sorayama's mechanized biology do not so much clash as compliment eachother. There was no disonnance seeing the works of either artist side by side.

Outside the gallery, this permanent installation overlooks several floors:

I love the "Sci-fi" feel of this image:

An earlier exhibition proir to the joint exhibition mentioned above where the "sexy robot" sculptures were featured in greater number:

Well lit in mirrored boxes, opposite another identical pair, with black walls and floor made for an infinity mirror effect with the impression of many thousands of robots just waiting to come alive.

Though primarily an illustrator these sculptures have a very delicate feel, even though they are metal:

Almost seems to be waiting to be held:

I hope you've enjoyed the post!
