Me presento: soy Maryori Márquez, venezolana, nacida en Caracas, de ascendencia, ser y reconocimiento afro, con todas las dimensiones que ello implica. De profesión Lic. En Educación, mención Ciencias Sociales egresada de la UCAB, además de dos postgrados, dos diplomados en Saberes Africanos, Latinoamericanos y Caribeños del Centro de Altos Estudios Pedro Gual y del Centro de Saberes Africanos, los cuales completaron por definir mi búsqueda de ~~~~*identidad y reconocimiento étnico.

Provengo de una familia humilde, conformada por mis padres, ya fallecidos, (oriundos de Barlovento), y nueve hermanos de los cuales soy la última de las hembras. El pueblo de la región en el cual nacieron mis padres se llama # Panaquire, y se caracteriza como asentamiento afrodescendiente, de Historia, Cultura y Economía de gran impacto en la región y en país.
I come from a humble family, made up of my parents, now deceased, (originally from Barlovento), and nine siblings of which I am the last of the females. The town in the region where my parents were born is called Panaquire, and is characterized as an Afro-descendant settlement, with a history, culture and economy of great impact in the region and in the country.

Mis padres mantuvieron siempre un sentido progresista, razón por la cual emigran a Caracas a conformar familia, ubicándose en la populosa zona de Catia. Mi madre desde el hogar, se dedicó a nuestra atención y formación en valores, mientras mi padre ejercía su profesión de Contador, título que obtuvo en su adultez y significó para nosotros un ejemplo a seguir, un estímulo, un reto. En este sentido, reconociendo el esfuerzo de nuestros padres y también con su apoyo, nos hicimos todos profesionales en diversas áreas. Por ello toda la familia acostumbramos a rendirles honor y tributos por el amor infinito, la admiración, respeto y agradecimiento que les tenemos y personalmente siempre los tengo presentes en mi corazón, viven en mí. No fue fácil para la época formar nueve hijos y extenderse hasta los nietos.

That is why the whole family is used to honor and pay tribute to them for the infinite love, admiration, respect and gratitude we have for them and personally I always have them present in my heart, they live in me. Por la ascendencia genética y cultural con la cual Dios nos bendijo, pertenecientes a la Diáspora africana, varios de mis hermanos y sobrinos desarrollaron su potencial musical innato, destacándose en las distintas y variadas formas de expresión musical por medio de la percusión, logrando incluso conformar o pertenecer a grupos musicales reconocidos tanto nacional como internacionalmente. Las mujeres de la familia aplicadas al baile, como es mi caso. Nadie nos enseñó a bailar, nadie les enseñó a tocar, fueron potenciales manifestaciones llevadas en la sangre que desde muy pequeños fueron aflorando por el sentido del oído y el ritmo de la clave.

Todos deleitados por la incursión autóctona en el toque y baile del tambor conforme a sus ritmos, cantos y bailes originales, en el caso de Barlovento, sumados a otros de asentamientos afro, por vía de intercambios culturales. El primer grupo musical de salsa conformado por cinco de mis hermanos y unos amigos se llamó JHAYRO, que son las siglas de la siguiente expresión: Jóvenes Haciendo Arte Y Rompiendo Obstáculos. Luego El Nuevo Porvenir, en el cual tocaban gaitas, música venezolana y música para el momento insurgentes. A ellos les siguieron otros que aún se mantienen: Grupo Madera, de expresión afro; y Descarga Criolla, Salsa. La Salsa Brava, la Salsa Vieja es aún una de nuestras pasiones, que nos une en caso de reuniones familiares, fiestas o eventos, somos melómanos. , principalmente apoyamos el talento nacional pero también seguimos en nuestros espacios otros representantes del género de otras latitudes. Particularmente, bailar o escuchar la salsa vieja y los tambores sanjuaneros es uno de mis grandes placeres.

Así como escuchar y bailar salsa y tambores, son acciones que me infunden una gran felicidad, como acabo de mencionar ambos los llevo en la sangre y como tal los expreso. Igualmente, con el mismo amor y respeto, honor a mis ancestros y a mis padres, en este sentido, me encanta visitar con frecuencia mis lugares de origen. Barloventom especialmente PANAQUIRE, porque allí nacieron mis padres y a todos los pueblos de la región, donde además de socializar con mis amigos de infancia, me relaciono con los cultures, haciendo de las visitas recreativas, espacios de continuos aprendizajes y disfrutando al máximo los hermosos sitios turísticos que los caracterizan: ríos, playas, montañas, fincas, hatos, etc.

Por otra parte, para mi estabilidad y crecimiento espiritual realizo lectura de la palabra diaria todos los días en la mañana en agradecimiento a Dios por la vida y sus bendiciones, mediante textos referidos a pasajes bíblicos, también realizo meditaciones guiadas durante las noches y ejercicios periódicamente, además iniciandome en el relajante mundo y placer de la conexión integral cuerpo, mente, espíritu, incentivada por la Biodanza.

Dentro de este contexto familiar, me realicé como madre de dos hijas en matrimonio que al poco tiempo se disolvió, quedando orgullosamente bajo la crianza de mis hijas sola, con el apoyo de mis padres hasta que enfermaron. Trabajé incansablemente. Compré nuestra casa y atendí todo lo que pude para su crecimiento y formación.
Within this family context, I realized myself as a mother of two daughters in a marriage that soon dissolved, leaving me proudly raising my daughters alone, with the support of my parents until they became ill. Las dos crecieron también en un ambiente de hermandad y constituimos una familia donde todo lo compartimos, experiencias, buenas como no tan buenas. Son mi sentido de vida y satisfacción, ya la mayor formó familia y me hizo abuela de un hermoso niño ahora de ocho años, amoroso, cariñoso, amable, cortés, inteligente, bromista y no podía faltar bailador de salsa y con sentido de oído y clave, condiciones básicas para iniciar en el ejercicio de la música de ser su interés.

En cuanto a mi ejercicio profesional, me he desempeñado en todas las modalidades y niveles educativos así como en otros relacionados a mi formación, tanto familiar como académica, incluyendo mi círculo social, orientados todos sobre el tema afro desde mis inicios hasta la actualidad. Conforme a mis ejes de interés, diseñe programas vinculados al ambiente educativo, siendo éstos relacionados intrínsecamente para impactar en los beneficiarios de tal forma que se insertaran efectivamente en sus contextos étnico-culturales, y alcanzaren sentidos de identidad y pertenencia a la población escolarizada o no, hacia los cuales fueron orientados y ejecutados para contribuir con mi grano de arena y humildes aportes en un área de investigación e información que me apasionan y de la cual formo parte, para revelar esa parte de la HISTORIA de la Africanidad y su Descendencia en la cual me reconozco y que generación tras generación durante mucho tiempo fue negada, por un sesgo intencional o no pero que en todo caso desfiguró la acción participativa de este gran contingente de la población en nuestra sociedad.

Considero muy importante generar espacios para conocer y divulgar estos aspectos de la Historia poco abordados hasta ahora, salvo en investigaciones puntuales. Actualmente me encuentro realizando un trabajo de investigación documental titulado La Puerta del Retorno, partiendo de la Historia ancestral que nos indica la forma atroz en la cual los africanos fueron desarraigados de sus comunidades, de sus familias y sometidos en calidad de mercancía a un proceso de comercialización causando destrucción en África y un impacto de sometimiento y explotación en las Indias Occidentales.
