[ESP/ENG] Que te vaya bien, pero no mejor que a mi | May you do well, but not better than me

Pudiera parecer envidia o tal ves egocentrismo ¿cierto?

ENGLISH

Greetings friends, sure when reading the title of my post many would think "Oh but what does she think? However, that is not a phrase that I would say (those who know me know it and that for me is enough), on the contrary, if I see myself surpassed in some area of my life by someone close to me, I feel satisfaction to see their achievements, and I am motivated to continue doing things well to someday exceed my own expectations.

Having said that, what I came to, to tell you about the Procrusto Syndrome or disorder, have you heard about it?

Have you ever met one of those people who want you to do well, but not better than them?

Let's read a little about this:

According to Greek mythology, Procusto was the son of Poseidon, he had an inn where he housed travelers passing by on the road and, it is said that, those who were bigger than him and who protruded from his own bed, he hacked off their limbs sticking out of the bed.
The above is also known as the Bed of Procrustes and is a very famous myth that is currently referred to talk about the one who wants to see us happy but not more than them, although the original story itself represents intolerance to difference.
Procusto was a feared king until the hero Theseus challenged him to measure himself in his own bed.

There are people who can not stand feeling that they have been surpassed in some aspect or circumstance by someone else and as a result of this, they get frustrated, reaching the limit of belittling and ignoring the person who generated this feeling and if that were not enough, they even put distance in between.

It may seem like envy or perhaps egocentrism, right? Well, this particular behavior is typical of a person who acts like Procustos, which is a very serious syndrome.

This type of person will do anything to not be surpassed by anyone, they think they are better than everyone, they want to always be number one and this is not so bad, the problem is in what they are willing to do to prevent someone from occupying that first place.

Procrastinators are emotionally affected by being overpowered, and although they are sometimes falsely empathetic, their main characteristic is judgmental. Imagine the one who pretends to be happy for your achievement but throws a criticism where you least expected it or stabs you in the back, always trying to stand out.

When there is a person who is proactive, responsible, punctual and/or with characteristics with which a procusto can be overcome, they look for ways to create situations and apply strategies in search of "eliminating" from the path and sometimes even humiliating that latent risk that is crossing their path. The solution for them is always to finish with the one who stands out the most because no one can be better than them, just as there is no room for two under the same roof.

We could think that these people are driven by fear, fear of not standing out, of not achieving their goals, of appearing incompetent or it is simple anger with life to see the success of others.

This topic is quite complex, I knew a couple where the wife started to do very well with her business, she achieved a lot of things with a lot of effort, but after a while, her husband began to feel uncomfortable, she was generating more money at home, however, she was happy and did not see it in a bad way, he was working too and was not doing badly, but the thing was that she was doing better and that frustrated him so much that he could not stand it and asked her to stop working (in this country that is a luxury, especially if you are doing well) obviously she did not accept and after a few years they had to separate. Could this be a case of Procusto Syndrome? Maybe yes, maybe no, maybe it was just an excuse but well, I'm off track 😅.

Quote:

Those who suffer from it are people who neither advance nor let advance, frustrated profiles or with very exaggerated self-esteem that inhabit many of the environments in which we move.
Psychologists recognize people with this syndrome as "nudging behavior". That is, getting rid of the brightest and boycotting the most prepared out of intolerance and pure selfishness.
Because for them there can be nothing worse than being outdone by others in some respect.

We know that we are social beings, that we all at some point seek and want approval and feel that we are recognized for what we do, but it is not necessary to sink others for you to be noticed, if we can both move forward let's do it.

The only obstacle in your life is you, no one else can be. So why hinder yourself and others? Go forward, always go forward and if you see that it doesn't work, go back, but only if it's to gain momentum and if you get one of those who want to see you happy but not more than them, FLEE!

Knowing this, do you have a Procusto in your life?
I'll be waiting for you in the comments box to know your impressions on this topic.
