Estoy absolutamente segura de que en algún momento de sus vidas han escuchado nombrar al fabuloso Moulin Rouge, y muy posiblemente han visto la película homónima, no obstante muy pocos saben como es este espectacular cabaret que nació en París durante la Belle Epoque, y que se ha mantenido hasta nuestros días, pero si me acompañan en este artículo, descubrirán cosas muy interesantes.
Hello, Hiver friends! I'm absolutely sure that at some point in your lives you have heard of the fabulous Moulin Rouge, and quite possibly have seen the movie of the same name, however very few know what this spectacular cabaret that was born in Paris during the Belle Epoque, and that has remained to this day, but if you join me in this article, you will discover very interesting things.
Corría el año 1889, finales del siglo XIX y comienzos de una época de ensueño conocida como La Belle Epoque, el negocio de los cabarets estaban en su mejor momento, así que Joseph Oller y Charles Zidler abrieron el suyo el 10 de octubre, al pie de la colina de Montmartre, el distrito 18 de París, una zona rural, pero muy de moda en esa época. Era un lugar de entretenimiento que rápidamente atrajo la atención de artistas como Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec o Auguste Renoir.
It was 1889, the end of the 19th century and the beginning of a dreamy era known as La Belle Epoque, the cabaret business was at its best, so Joseph Oller and Charles Zidler opened theirs on October 10, at the foot of Montmartre hill, the 18th arrondissement of Paris, a rural area, but very fashionable at the time. Los caballeros que querían disfrutar de él, solo debían pagar un franco, entonces accedían a una escalera de caracol que estaba dentro de una de sus patas, y de esta forma podían ingresar a la sala donde eran entretenidos por bailarinas de la danza del vientre.
This is the famous giant stucco elephant, installed in the garden. The founders of the cabaret acquired it at the Paris Universal Exposition of 1889. Inside it was a luxurious entertainment room. Gentlemen who wanted to enjoy it, only had to pay one franc, then accessed a spiral staircase that was inside one of its legs, and thus could enter the room where they were entertained by belly dancers.

The Moulin Rouge was the first building with electricity in Paris and for this reason it attracted a lot of attention from visitors. It was designed by Adolphe Léon Willette. The large red windmill that dominated the facade and attracted the attention of passersby with its large blades, was intended to recall the history of Montmatre, the town that once had many windmills. A pesar de que las bailarinas del Moulin Rouge eran muy mal vistas por el resto de las mujeres de la sociedad parisina, en realidad no eran prostitutas, su trabajo era entretener a los caballeros que visitaban el cabaret, conversar con ellos, servir bebidas y desde luego bailar. Y era precisamente el novedoso can-cán francés que estas hermosas bailarinas ejecutaban, el que las hizo famosas y al mismo tiempo «indecentes» ya que levantaban sus faldas y dejaban al descubierto las enaguas, los ligeros y desde luego las piernas. Pero también había hombres en este espectáculo.
Although the dancers of the Moulin Rouge were frowned upon by the rest of the women of Parisian society, they were not really prostitutes, their job was to entertain the gentlemen who visited the cabaret, chat with them, serve drinks and of course dance. And it was precisely the new French can-can that these beautiful dancers performed, which made them famous and at the same time "indecent" because they lifted their skirts and exposed their petticoats, their flirts and of course their legs. But there were also men in this show.

The newspapers talked a lot about the Moulin Rouge, which made its fame continue to grow and attract more people to the place. Luego de la muerte de su corredor principal, el Musical Hall o vestíbulo musical dejó de funcionar, así que el Moulin Rouge comenzó a trabajar como cine. En la década de los 50 tuvo una gran reforma y volvió a brillar como cabaret. A lo largo de su vida sufrió varias reformas, sobrevivió a un incendio, a dos guerras mundiales y a varias crisis económicas, no obstante continua en la palestra parisina y se ha convertido en un icono de toda Francia, a la altura de su famosa torre Eiffel o El Arco del Triunfo.
After the death of its main corridor, the Musical Hall ceased to function, so the Moulin Rouge began to work as a movie theater. In the 50's it underwent a major renovation and shone again as a cabaret. Throughout it's life it underwent several reforms, survived a fire, two world wars and several economic crises, however continues in the Parisian limelight and has become an icon of all France, at the height of its famous Eiffel Tower or the Arc de Triomphe.

Esta película posó los ojos del mundo en el famoso Moulin Rouge y comenzó a ser conocido incluso por personas de nueva generación que no habían oído hablar de él.
In 2001 Hollywood brought to the cinema a story based on the golden age of the great shows of the famous Parisian cabaret, starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor and directed by Baz Luhrmann. This film turned the eyes of the world on the famous Moulin Rouge and began to be known even by people of a new generation who had never heard of it.

Con motivo del aniversario número 125 del Moulin Rouge, las bailarinas del famoso cabaret obtuvieron el record Guinnes mundial, al levantar las piernas 29 veces en 30 segundos, además, el bailarín solista de la «revista» pudo elevar la pierna 30 veces en 30 segundos.
On the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the Moulin Rouge, the dancers of the famous cabaret obtained the Guinness World Record by lifting their legs 29 times in 30 seconds, and the solo dancer of the "revue" was able to lift his leg 30 times in 30 seconds.
