Gem #370 - A puff of wind and the praise of the people, weigh alike

Rendering homage to those worthy of it, may inarguably prove a rather fitting tribute at times. After all, the earnest recognition of ones laborious efforts, serves not only, as the welcome confirmation of a task respectably completed.. but also as an advantageous level of motivation – with the recognized enthusiastically partaking of the ‘feel good’ endorphins, released as a result thereof. When an experience is emotionally comforting to someone, a natural inclination exists to continually replicate that positive state of perception. Whether the sensation be fulfilling at the end of the day, requires deep reflection from the recipient. This introspection should reveal that gormandizing on compliments, will with certainty lead to a sense of emptiness and lack of well-being in the long term.

Sure.. a compliment here and there, may (for the underappreciated) come as a breath of fresh air. It’s the recurrent overindulgence of such, however, which bolsters an ego; with the supercilious becoming overbearing to those displaying humility. Greatness is not defined by the perception of another.. but rather the heartfelt actions of the ones often unnoticed. It’s easy for the simple to be meek; whereas it takes a tremendous effort, for the pretentious to maintain an appearance – the constant exertion taking it’s toll on the unwitting. As to the reason why anyone would willfully opt for such, may come down to the hollowness created as a result of the same, in perpetuity.

So it thus appears that the adoration of the masses holds no more merit than the temporary relief from a gust of fresh air, while ratifying and contemplating the same. If this then be the sum of the whole.. to escape this sorrowful merry-go-round, one needs to recognize that he/she is in fact on it in the first place. To get off, requires first in knowing how it all began; or more precisely, to understand the season when the ride itself commenced. Humility serves as the switch to make it all stop. Those waiting in line to get on, should take heed! - for when it starts, one could get exceptionally dizzy; with it being much harder to think with clarity. At the very least.. allowing those who care, to know where one’s going; may offer some additional hope, that the breaks may one day be applied - from the outside.

Till next time,
