What better excuse than today to write a little about the history behind Valentine's Day. In reality, February 14, like almost any other holiday, today is seen more as a marketing strategy to promote consumerism; and, although this is true, the purpose of this publication is for you to know in one way the origin of a story that today everyone celebrates as the day of love.
Qué mejor excusa que hoy para escribir un poco sobre la historia detrás de San Valentín. En realidad el 14 de Febrero como casi cualquier otro día festivo, hoy en día es más visto cómo una estrategía de marketing para promover el consumismo; y, aunque esto es cierto, el propósito de esta publicación es para que conozcas de una manera el origen de una historia que hoy todo el mundo celebra como el día del amor.
St. Valentine's Day refers to a priest who, according to the scriptures, secretly helped Christians to get married. The Roman Emperor Claudius II did not allow marriage so that men would not be weak on the battlefield. St. Valentine, unlike Claudius II, believed that a man having a wife and reason to return home made him perform better on the battlefield because of the desire to return to his beloved wife.
El Día de San Valentín hace referencia a un sacerdote que según dicen las escrituras, ayudó en secreto a casarse a los cristianos. Ya que el emperador romano Claudio II no permitía el matrimonio para que los hombres no fueran débiles en el campo de batalla. San Valentín, al contrario que Claudio II, creía que el hombre al tener una esposa y razón por la que regresar a casa hacía su desempeño fuera mejor en el campo de batalla por las ganas de regresar a su amada esposa.
This confrontation forced the emperor to have Valentine imprisoned. While in prison, he began to care for people, including the jailer's daughter, who was blind. Legend has it that St. Valentine managed to cure the girl's blindness. Later the emperor had St. Valentine beheaded, but before being beheaded, on February 14, 270, he wrote a love letter signed "your Valentine".
Esta confrontación forzó al emperador a que encarcelaran a San Valentín. Durante su estadía en la cárcel, empezó a cuidar de la gente, entre ellas a la hija del carcelero, quien era ciega. It is said that it took about 200 years for February 14 to be proclaimed Valentine's Day, until Rome became Christianized. But it was until later a poet of the Middle Ages named Geoffrey Chaucer that Valentine's Day was linked to the day of love.

Something that ended as a tragedy in death, today has a symbol of love, and there are many versions and evolutions of this story, but the reality is that it is celebrated because we have the joy of being able to love and be loved today.
