Quick analysis of my Google Maps Timeline for 2023

Greetings!

Let's first start with something beautiful. Yes, it is the beginning of the new week so I need something positive in advance :)

Here is a sunset at the sea shore, I took near the scenery village of Vourvourou in Greece. Some fishing nets, some boats mooring, a calm scene from paradise, right?

Now back to business!

Here are some screenshots from my yearly email by Google Maps.

Today I am questioning the correctness and the fullness of the info provided.

In these +10k km, the flights I made are definitely not covered. So Google tracks velocities in a predefined range. I suspect they track everything but just don't include everything in their infographs.

That sounds about right.

We prefer home cuisine, so that sounds about right as well.

The most number of my travels were not in UK or Greece but I suppose they highlight the new places visited.

This feels randomized a bit as it doesn't cover for the most time spent. The half of those were a half-day trips.

Now this is definitely incorrect. Recently I found out countries and places visited missing.

Also I figured out even if mobile data is switched off the maps app stores all tracking data and lately pushes it up to the gmap servers.

My verdict is that if I need accurate location tracking data, I wouldn't spent money on G services. For advertising purposes, though, that data seems enough. Pretty sure that's the original purpose - track enough to generate revenue.
