We Saved a Kitten

On the 19th of September, Huntsville Alabama received over 3 inches of rain.

This was caused by a hurricane that made landfall to the South West which deposited rain far inland.

During this downpour our two puppies decided that their biological functions would proceed as normal despite our (my wife and I) protest. So at around 2:30pm by little boys Lewis and clark decided they needed to use the bathroom.

My wife, being the heroine she is, decided to brave the storm and take the little ones downstairs.

About ten minutes later she walks back inside utterly drenched holding something.

"Omg I saved a cat." she says to me with a stunned expression.

It rained so much that it flooded all of the drainage systems nearby, including the home of this little guy.

When found he was barely clinging to life on the bank of one of the drainage ditches screaming for help. He was shivering unable to stand - possibly having just swam for its life. If left alone the poor thing would have surely perished. However Caroline wasn't going to let that happen.

So we look the little guy in and raised his body temperature with warm water and then dried him off. About an hour later he nibbled on some salmon and then fell asleep.

Within two hours we had taken him to the pet hospital to be inspected, and they said that due to our intervention this cat avoided death. He wasn't injured at all, his only clear medical concern being some mal-nutrition and exhaustion.

Oh they also let us know that he's about 8-10 weeks old. So he's survived on the streets for a little while already.

They gave us this little cat carrier. As we left we purchased some cat food, a collar, and cat litter with litter trays.

A day later he was eating more and regaining a lot of strength.

This is him napping in Caroline's arms after a big breakfast.

He has begun to form a bond with her and it's delightful to see.

We made a vet appointment to have him checked for diseases/parasites, and most importantly to see if he is chipped. If he is we'll certainly return him to the owner, if not then we'll most likely have him chipped and given the proper injections.

Then we'll own a cat! - One that we rescued.

This is him on Day 2 almost fully recovered. What an adorable little guy! I can't believe he was hours from dying not 30 hours prior.

To my deer Hivers I have a question for you.

What breed do you think he is? We have no idea and the hospital tech didn't tell us. Perhaps the vet will when we take him in but for now we're totally clueless.

Also! Let's have a little fun to celebrate such a blessed occasion.

This lovely little animal is currently unnamed.

What suggestions do you have for names? We're open to any and all (sensible) suggestions.

I'll reward the poster of my favorite name with a 5 HIVE reward.

If we choose to name the cat after your suggestion I'll reward you with a further 5 HIVE, just to show our appreciation.

I was thinking something along the lines of 'Storm' because of the circumstances in which he was found - but I'm pretty terrible with names.

Thanks so much for reading and I look forward to reading your suggestions!

Have a great day. Simon.
