Esa última frase sorprendió a Katniss.

“No!

Rose abrazó a Jack fuertemente.

Katniss miró a Peeta.

Katniss abrazó a Peeta.

This is a crossover between Hunger Games and Titanic

Peeta was watching Katniss's beautiful sleeping face as he waited for her to come to. He couldn't help but blush as he saw that more than concerned about her condition, for the first time in his life, he could admire her beauty up close. Unlike him, Katniss's childhood was hard, and yet she flourished in the face of adversity. There were small scars on her face, perhaps received during her constant hunts, which gave her face a mature character.

Katniss woke up suddenly screaming the name of her sister Prim. Peeta, surprised and grieved, recoiled violently, banging his head against the top bunk of the bunk.

"Peeta?"

"Yes," he answered quickly, trying to hide his blushing with his arm while stroking the bump on his head.

"Where are we?" she asked, still confused by her lethargy.

"Whatever it is, it must be some twisted test from the Hunger Games," he explained as he got out of bed.

"We are on the high seas. This room seems to be a cabin. I woke up a short time ago and like you, I have no idea how we got here. I have not tried to open the door, I was hoping you would wake up and start to find out.

Katniss closed her eyes and tried to remember what had happened. Some images flooded her memory: her sister being elected as a tribute to the games, images of the Capitol, and the excited audience cheering the representatives of the Districts, Cinna putting on the Mockingjay pin. Her hand involuntarily sought the same spot on her chest and, indeed, it was still attached to her jacket. After that a strange light and complete darkness.

For some reason, she knew that whatever happened, she had to survive even if it meant taking the life of another human being.

As Katniss recovered, Peeta carefully opened the cabin door and took a look around. There were a dozen similar doors, side by side throughout the corridor, people running frantically in all directions, speaking different languages. The rags that people wore reminded him of the inhabitants of the 12th District, thus proving that they were nowhere near the Capitol, nor any of the other higher Districts.

Where the hell were we?

He carefully closed the door, not without first noticing someone's back wearing a jacket similar to the one they were both wearing.

"Wherever we are, we are not alone," he warned with anguish on his face.

Katniss had stood up and looked between the bunks and inside the cabinets of an old chest of drawers.

"What are you doing?"

"Looking for anything that will help us defend ourselves," Katniss replied.

Suddenly a familiar voice sounded in both their minds. It was President Snow.

"Tributes! Welcome to the seventy-fourth Hunger Game. Nano cameras have been implanted in your optic nerves along with sound emitters and receivers in your hearing systems. For the pleasure and amusement of the audience, everything you see and hear will be broadcast to all District and Capitol television networks."

They both looked into each other's confused eyes. Apparently, it wasn't just the trackers inserted into their arms that were the only thing inside their bodies.

Peeta had also thought the same as Katniss, who was touching his forearm to the scar left by the tracking implant. But his thoughts were again interrupted by Snow's voice.

"You have three hours to find a lifeboat and get off this big ship that is about to sink to the bottom of the ocean. Everywhere on the ship are hidden weapons to eliminate your opponents. A warning tone will tell you how close you are to them. The more tributes you eliminate, the more likely you are to get out alive. Only the last living tribute will leave the ship."

Peeta tried to hide his expression of overwhelming that he was insidious.

"You are reminded that escape is not an option, if you try to jump off the ship, an explosive capsule will be activated in your head and you will die instantly."

"By the way, the lives of the crew and other passengers are expendable."

That last sentence surprised Katniss. There's no way she'd take the life of an innocent man.

"Happy Hunger Games and may the odds be on your favor"

"Panem today, Panem tomorrow, Panem forever"

Even though they had stopped listening to the president's words, Katniss was still shaking her head.

She came out of the trance when she felt Peeta's warm hand on her shoulder.

"We better get out of here. We're a sitting duck locked up in this tiny room.

Katniss nodded. However, she doubted her partner's loyalty. Like her, Peeta also had a family, and being the victor would ensure a life of comfort not only for him but also for all his loved ones for all eternity. No more hunger, no more anguish, and no more repression. She was not sure what feelings he had for her, yet she was not willing to trust him fully.

Contrary to what she felt, she could not stop thinking of that time when Peeta threw the two loaves of bread at her when she had lost all hope and was dying of hunger, which saved her life, her sister's and her mother's.

Contrary to what she felt, she could not stop thinking of that time when Peeta threw the two loaves of bread at her when she had lost all hope and was dying of hunger, which saved her life, her sister's and her mother's.

Outside, everything was in chaos, news of the sinking had spread throughout the ship. Despair and panic were felt everywhere. Hundreds of people flooded the corridors. Many of them stopped at the corners to read the plans on the wall indicating the nearest exits. However, the great boat was itself a great labyrinth.

Not only was there the imminent danger of flooding and so little she could understand of the strange languages spoken by the other passengers in the boat, but the lower sections were also already flooded and the water level was beginning to rise quickly. They also had the danger of the other tributes which would possibly be hidden among the other crew members or passengers.

Fortunately, Peeta had the great idea of wearing the clothes that some people had left behind in their exasperation to leave the ship.

The ship's electrical system began to fail, obscuring the path through the endless corridors and stairways of the ship for longer and longer periods.

To the ears of Katniss and Peeta came the messages from another world, indicating the death of one or another tribute perishing, perhaps because they had taken the wrong path and ended up in a dead-end. Or perhaps for having been the victim of another tribute.

It was then that she was first seen.

She was a delicate-looking girl with a beautiful complexion, she was wearing a white dress, and was undoubtedly upper class, but for some reason, she was running away from the mob that was fleeing from the danger. No matter how much tripping and pushing she received from the other passengers, the girl was running in the opposite direction from the others. Although everyone was running for the nearest exits, she was trying to get to the lower sections of the ship.

Peeta exasperatedly pulled Katniss's arm to keep them moving, but Katniss decided to stop and help the girl, who no one was paying attention to.

"Please help me, I need to go find a passenger who is incarcerated"

Peeta stared into Katniss' eyes and discreetly denied. But he knew it was in vain when Katniss got something into her head, nothing and no one could stop her.

Resigned, they decided to help the girl.

After going down several floors and into corridors where the water reached their chests, they finally found the direction they were looking for.

"Jack," cried the girl.

After several attempts, and after the dizzying noise of the water jets starting to come out of the ground, they heard the boy's voice.

"Rose!"

The excited girl fell into the boy's arms and kissed him until she was exhausted. Mopey, Katniss and Peeta decided to keep their mouths shut.

The boy explained that he had fallen into the trap of Rose's fiancé and at no time had he stolen the jewel. The girl implied to him that she had also discovered the truth and for that reason, she had returned.

The water level continued to rise and so did Katniss' impatience.

"All right, we must go," she exclaimed.

However, there was a new problem, the boy was chained to a steel tube and there was no key or way to break the chains. Rose quickly looked through the drawers and shelves for the key to the handcuffs but unfortunately, she could not find them.

"Damn it," cried Rose.

The water level had risen too high and there was no longer enough time to release him.

"Calm down my love, you'd better go with them," replied Jack after embracing her.

He looked seriously at the strange girl accompanying his beloved.

"Please take care of her."

Rose protested and indicated that if necessary she would die at his side.

"If you jump, I jump, remember?" Rose replied.

Katniss had never known the feeling of love in her life, but she was witnessing a strange feeling between these two strangers, who did not care about dying for each other.

But they would not both give up so easily, there had to be a way to release him. So they began to pull in unison the tube to which the boy was chained, to detach it from the wall.

No matter how hard they tried, their efforts were in vain, the tube was firmly attached to the wall. Conveniently Peeta had heard the warning tone of a nearby weapon and went to investigate. Soon he returned with a military battleax in his hands.

"Do you mind if I try this?" he asked.

On the first impact, the chain was pulverized by the blow of the indestructible alloy of the battle-ax, freeing Jack instantly.

Jack and Rose embraced Peeta for her heroic action. Peeta, surprised, blushed at the behavior of the strangers. Never in his life had he known the fellowship and brotherly embrace of other human beings. His life, like Katniss', had been one of constant survival under the dictatorial regime of the Capitol. It had been filled with beatings, scolding, and orders. Life in the 12th district was always hard.

Both Peeta and Katniss were beginning to glimpse the benefits of a life of freedom, freedom from fear, and freedom from the repression of a bloodthirsty government. Was it possible to fight for more than just food and safety?

Without wasting any more time, they all fled the room. The water level had reached their necks and the force of the rising water prevented them from running through the corridors; fortunately, Jack knew very well where they were going.

Peeta and Katniss heard again the sounds of the deaths of other tributes. The count indicated that only seven tributes remained, including the two of them.

Katniss stopped at the sound of an alarm tone from a nearby weapon. The sound became more intense under a staircase that was completely flooded. Without wasting any more time she dived in to look for it.

Jack and Rose did not understand why the girl had jumped into the water, the nearest exit was not under the stairs where Katniss had dived.

"It's a family heirloom," Peeta replied to the uncertainty they both drew on their faces.

Still, they decided to wait for her. Peeta knew that anyone else would have fled immediately, but these two people had shown great appreciation for both of them.

Minutes later, which seemed endless, Katniss emerged coughing loudly and raising a bow and quiver in her hand.

Peeta knew they had a better chance of survival now.

Soon, they arrived at a staircase that led them to a group of people struggling to open a gate. Among the people were Tommy and Fabrizio, Jack's acquaintances, who asked him to help them break the gate. Jack looked at Peeta and he understood what he had to do.

"Make way for my friend to show his skill with his tool," Jack shouted.

After a couple of blows with the ax, the lock on the gate was instantly destroyed, providing the freedom desired by all the trapped passengers.

Soon everyone was congratulating Peeta thankfully for breaking the lock. The pats on his shoulder soon followed. The joy was contagious, many smiles soon brought out one he had never seen before.

Katniss was smiling along with two other girls, who for some reason were looking at him in such a way that it seemed like they wanted to eat him. One of the girls came over and kissed him on the cheek, making him as red as a tomato. For a moment, Katniss frowned in disapproval of what had happened. "Was she jealous?"

But the happiness was gone as soon as it came. Katniss felt her hand being held and at first thought, she was some new fan asking if Peeta was single. A familiar face reminded her again of where she had come from, carrying the burden of worry on her shoulders. Rue, the little girl who represented District 11, warned her that three of the tributes from the main districts (the strongest) were waiting to ambush them as they went out on the deck.

It took Katniss too long to understand what was happening. Laughter turned to shout after hearing a gun go off. She immediately drew an arrow, drew her bow, and ran to the exit.

"Stay behind me," she shouted to Rue.

Outside, the cold was terrible, part of the bow of the ship was underwater, tilting the ship and making it more difficult to walk on the deck. Jack held in his arms the inert body of Fabrizio and Peeta struggled with Cato, the strongest of the tributes. Katniss pointed at Cato but hesitated for a second as she tried to avoid injuring Peeta. Soon a dagger was thrust into Peeta's side, weakening him in front of his opponent.

The enraged crowd lashed out at the enemy tributes and they were soon subdued and thrown overboard, these immediately perishing as they fell into the water when their explosive charges were activated.

Katniss ran to Peeta, fortunately still alive. The ship shuddered in a haunting, terrifying sound, splitting in two. The bow sank immediately, causing the stern to rise even higher, beyond sea level.

"We must get to the stern of the ship as soon as possible," shouted Jack, taking Rose by the hand and pointing to the top of the ship.

None of the three remaining tributes knew what would happen, but they decided to follow Jack's instructions. The boat continued to tilt, making it more difficult to reach the stern. Many other passengers slipped and slid out to sea, screaming their heads off. The three knew how lucky they would be if they touched the water, so they held on even tighter to everything they could as they climbed to the back of the big boat.

Peeta was beginning to lose more blood, getting weaker and unfortunately heavier for the girls. Katniss soon devised a way to climb faster, seeing a rope that was close to them. She asked Rue, who was an expert at climbing trees, to take the rope and tie it to the edge of the bow and throw it towards them. Rue immediately took the rope and quickly climbed up to the bow.

Finally, she reached the bow, the boat was already more than 45 degrees inclined. She tied one end tightly and threw the other towards the guys. Katniss took the rope and they started to climb. But they had forgotten about the District 5 tribute, nicknamed the weasel. The weasel took advantage of Rue's distraction and pushed her into the void, perishing immediately when she touched the water.

Katniss, enraged, shot an arrow through the weasel's heart. The two continued to climb with the help of the rope, but other passengers also took the opportunity and held on to the rope. Katniss knew that the rope would not support the weight of the other passengers, so she rushed to the edge. The rope began to give way, but fortunately, Katniss reached the bow rail before the rope broke under the weight, dropping all the other passengers who had hung on to it.

But the danger had not yet passed, she could barely hold on and keep Peeta's arm attached.

"Let me go," shouted Peeta.

"No! If you fall, I fall," she replied

Peeta began to struggle to get loose, but Katniss refused to let him go. Suddenly a familiar voice reassured them

"It is very easy to die, but to live, that is difficult and even more difficult to appreciate life," shouted Jack

With the help of Jack and Rose, they managed to get Katniss and Peeta to safety. They both appreciated the help provided.

"Don't worry, it was the least we could do for you," Rose replied.

The four of them leaned over the railing on the bow to take a breather.

"It's not over yet," Jack's face turned dark.

"The bow will sink soon enough, and it will pull us to the bottom. We'll have to swim as hard as we can to get to the surface. But the cold will be our worst enemy."

Rose hugged Jack tightly.

Katniss looked at Peeta. They both knew what it meant to touch the water.

"If one of us dies, the other will survive," replied Peeta.

"We will not give that pleasure to the Capitol or to President Snow. If we are to die, we will die together."

Katniss hugged Peeta. Peeta relaxed in Katniss' arms.

Everything happened very quickly, the bow sank and all the passengers who were clinging to the railing sank into the sea. Katniss and Peeta remained in each other's arms. The cold and darkness embraced them. Thousands of needles pierced their skin but none of them separated from the other. They were sure it would be instant death at the touch of water.

Katniss woke up in an all-white room. Haymitch Abernathy was snoring, leaning against a chair.

"What happened?" Katniss shouted

"Where's Peeta?" she asked again

"He's recovering, he'll be fine. The capitol knows how to repair deadly injuries."

"Both of you have been lucky, the Capitol decided to save your lives. I guess it wasn't in their best interest to make both of you martyrs."

Katniss closed her eyes. Finally, she could rest. Still, she wondered about the fate of the beautiful couple they had met.

Well, you know the rest.

Thank you for coming all the way out here with me.
